Lolol @ people with blinding emotional connections
He'll never be traded at this point due to as I said, off-ice presence, but if Mike Gillis was honest in saying that to win a cup you need 4 lines that can contribute, a 4th line centered by manny has very little contributions.
And as for you guys saying I'm the one who doesn't know anything, Ive probably played more high level hockey than you guys have watched in my life and I've been posting in this thread before most of you had even joined RS..
As for who I would trade him for, I'd trade him for any physical defensive forward who isnt scared to play the game the way it should be played in the defensive end, if you people cannot say you've seen numerous turn overs in his attempts at penalty killing and even exiting the Canucks zone, you really must be blind..
A "face off" specialist is VERY useful when you have hank, Kes, and Cody on face off duty..
If people think he is so valuable, who wants to make a wager that he's let go once his contract expires? MG can't wait for that day.
it's not that i care about trading manny. i'm sure he brings great locker room presence and off ice work, but if we had the opportunity to improve our team, i would trade him in a heart beat. it's impossible to foresee what team would want him/accept him for a trade.
iirc he's making 2.5M? if he was playing as well as he was last year the 2.5 would be worth it. at the same time, who else could we get for him? unless it's an upgrade, it's pointless to essentially "swap" players.

The plus minus i attribute to starting in your own zone ~90% of the time, not saying starting in your own zone means that you can't score. But in most cases once manny gets out of the zone, he gets on the bench.
Now as for MG wanting to get rid of him, maybe thats your hockey senses tingling, but it sure sounds like armchair gm to me. Besides, even if manny leaves, there are many reason that could happen. Maybe he's demanding the same money, I certainly do not think he's worht the 2.5mil he's earnign right now. Or he thinks he'll have more opportunity elsewhere.
Any notion that you think you know whats going on with management is pure speculation, unless you're going to tell me you've managed a national hockey league team before. =)
For someone who's so knowledgeable you post a bunch of crap. Hodgson over malholtra for faceoffs? gtfo. Yea, lets take a rookie hovering around 40% on the face off compared to a top face off man in the league, especially in pressure situations. Fuckin genius!
Yea theres a great chance he wont be kept next year. Doesn't take a someone whos played "high level hockey" to figure that out. 2mil+ for a player on the 4th line isnt going to be kept at the same price. How about you post something that actually shows your knowledge of hockey from your "high level" experience.

best part from that article if you didn't read it:

So, to summarize: Manny Malhotra is a defensive-zone specialist at even-strength, a penalty-killing specialist, and one of the league’s greatest faceoff men. He has supposedly lost his job taking defensive zone draws, killing penalties and winning faceoffs to Cody Hodgson, who a) doesn’t take defensive zone draws b) doesn’t kill penalties and c) doesn’t win faceoffs.
They aren’t remotely comparable players. They’re doing entirely different things. The idea that Vancouver is shopping Malhotra because Hodgson has replaced him is entirely without substance.
lol.. Faceoffs.. yay? he's -10.. the worst on the team and 1 of only 4 players on the team that is a - player..
as for being a "big part of the PK" again.. what is he offering? Face offs? he's petrified to block shots, ive seen more turn overs than clears, and he doesnt play the front of the net?
the bottom line is, we have a player that is playing on our team that is no where near 100%, if you think he isnt currently a liability, you dont know anything about hockey or you havent been watching the games, he sticks out like a sore thumb
I "face palm" when people put emotional ties ahead of factual stats as reason to keep players around.
I don't even watch the canucks nor am I a fan, so I think I won't be emotionally attached to anything in my argument lol, but if I recall correctly Manny has something like 83% zone starts in the defensive end, thats a redic amount of ice time in your own zone, I think it would be unfair to expect him to be a non minus player, hes basically being put in a situation where he can only come out a neutral at best. I'm also not sure why you said he wasn't necessary for draws in your other post because of hank, hodg, and kes being able to take draws? because henrik and hodg are both below average faceoff men according to the statistics they clock in at 49 and 41% while manny is at 58%.
kris draper had 12 or 13 of his 20 seasons as a +5 or worse player.
hes probably considered one of the 3rd/4th line guys in recent history
jarome iginla is a -5 this year with 44 points
claude giroux is a -2 and leads the league with 61 points
and these are guys who are out there to score points! not defend in their own end.
+/- is not an indicator of a players worth. infact manny only being a -10 in a role where hes almost expected to just win the face off, clear the zone, hit center, dump the puck, and line change is probably on the acceptable level.
