Something tells me CBJ will get raped on the deal.. just like the Flames have with Celine Dion

The only decent high profile trade that saw results is the TOR/BOS trade with Kessel
ugh

I'm thinking Nash goes to LA. They have the assets that Columbus could use, workable cap space and they've got two good centers that Nash could play with.

That's bad news...if the Canucks finish 2nd, big chance they could get LA in the 1st round. Do you really want to play Nash, Kopitar, Brown, Richards and co with Quick in net? I've been hoping all year we get Phoenix, Calgary or Dallas so we could have a relatively easier first round.

spoon.ek9 02-16-2012 07:03 PM

I would be very concerned if LA lands Nash. The Canucks would probably still win, but it would be a friggin tough series.

RiceIntegraRS 02-16-2012 07:23 PM

Lets hope TO lands Nash then. Knowing Brian Burke hes not gonna be shy about selling the future off to land a guy like him. IMO having a bunch of draft picks and prospects is alil overrated unless you plan on being at the bottom of the league for a couple years to stock up on top 5 draft picks like the Pens(Crosby, Malkin, Stall, Fleury) and Chicago(Kane,Toews) and look what happened to them.

jeedee 02-16-2012 08:30 PM

As much as I'd love to have Nash on the team, he'd completely screw over the cap structure Gilman and Gillis worked on. Having a guy on the team with a 7.8 cap hit making more than guys that have all taken discounts? No thanks. He'd also make resigning Burrows, Edler, Hodgson etc difficult in the future.

Hey Guys I got "unofficial" source (but reliable) that Manny Malhotra will be at Sportchek Pacific Centre tomorrow from 330-530pm, doing what's called "Undercover Pro", its a Sportchek/NHL marketing initiative where they have a NHL pro "working the floor" in Sportchek.
There will be autograph/picture opportunities as soon as he is "spotted" by public.
I don't know details as they kept it pretty hush hush, but I managed to get some info on it, so I thought I'd share it with RS

Really? You're making it sound like the Kings are a lock to even make the playoffs. This is a team who's sitting in 8th. A team that has the leagues shittiest offence. A team that's been shut out SEVEN times in 58 games. A team that needed to "cheat" to be CBJ at home. Even if they get Nash, the ONLY ONLY way the Kings even come close to beating the Canucks is if Quick absolutely stands on his head and steals 4 games for them. If Calgary can get hot, the Kings are done.

Mike Oxbig 02-16-2012 10:06 PM

you know the canucks will do something for the city when they have 2 days off at home :)

Agree about the Canucks current cap structure too difficult to work with.

BUT, players are smarter than we give them credit for. The current core group knows that their best chance to go for a deep run is this season and likely next season. Beyond that, there is a ton of uncertainty with our team as it stands. Players that took a hometown discount believe in the direction of management and the team and thought we have the best chance of bringing them a cup. The players know what a player like Nash brings to the table, and if it gives them a better chance of winning the cup, they're egos aren't going to be hurt by taking a .5-1M discount; its not like the Canucks offered him that contract after lowballing their own players.

There are certainly Nash haters, but I've been rewatching some of the Olympic games the last little while and he was an absolute monster for Team Canada playing with decent players in games that count for something. I think people underestimate how bad Columbus actually is... they can make the Flames look good.

The only way a GM like MG is going to make this trade, however unlikely, is based solely on giving us a better chance at a cup than we currently have. We don't need a franchise player to bring ppl into the rink and to sell tickets.

kwy 02-16-2012 10:20 PM

Going to the game on sat, hope it's a good one.

Solid post. The cards are really in MG's hands. Columbus DESPERATELY need a goalie and I see either LA or Vancouver as the top contenders for Nash. I'm positive CLB would rather have a proven Cory Schneider than a rushed goalie like Bernier.

But if we're going to get a guy with a caphit of 7.8M, I rather have Weber [yes him lol] than Nash. The Canucks current priorities should be:

1. Top 4 Right Side Defenseman [To replace Salo, Tanev is a big question mark]
2. Bottom 6 Forward
3. Top 6 Forward
4. Backup Goalie [Schneider isn't going to be here forever]

spideyv2 02-16-2012 11:08 PM

Weber > Nash for days

we need depth, not a franchise player

punkwax 02-17-2012 05:17 AM

Guys, Nash ain't coming. Just let it go...

Eastwood 02-17-2012 06:34 AM

LA will get him. Jack Johnson will be a CBJ.

Hondaracer 02-17-2012 06:42 AM

Getting weber would be more likely than Nash..

The only team I'd be concerned with playing in the first round would be the Ducks if they somehow managed to get in. But we all know we're getting the Hawks. It just wouldn't be Canucks playoff hockey without a series against the Hawks. Might as well get it over with early.

Not really racist! 02-17-2012 08:19 AM

Playoffs is a whole different game boys....Kings will get it together before the playoffs

Tim Budong 02-17-2012 10:14 AM

This statement says it best on why Nash trade wont happen based on team morale.
For once, I can agree with a CBC panelist

Quote:

It is the organization's philosophy to reward their own, with newcomers like Dan Hamhuis understanding they will not break the bank.
of course, with the exception of RobertoLuongo, guys like Burrows, Edler and the twins have accepted this.

Teams such as Detroit also build their core from WITHIN the organization, and with good management on young prospects, a breakout prospect could be on the horizons.

I will admit I love drooling over the possibility of Nash/Kesler/Booth on a line. It aint happening.

And as Ronin says, The Kings have the most flexibility on cap management for that big 7.8m hit. In terms of what they can offer back, it is yet to be seen, but JackJohnson will be the center piece going back to CBJ.
