wow on Hemsky's contract. Oilers couldn't find a better way to spend 5M/yr cap hit? Or maybe they are going to pull a Setoguchi, signed one day, traded away the next :D

EDMONTON -- Ales Hemsky is staying with the Edmonton Oilers.

The forward signed a US$10-million, two-year extension on Friday night, foregoing the right to become a free agent this summer.

Hemsky would have been a prime trade target ahead of Monday's deadline had he remained unsigned.

Instead, he'll remain with the only NHL organization he's ever known.

The 28-year-old was drafted 13th overall by Edmonton in 2001 and has 421 points in 536 career games.

In 46 games this season, the Czech has five goals and 26 points.
what the.. massive overpayment

dbaz 02-24-2012 03:54 PM

honestly hemsky is very good but injury prone. more deserving than grabovski or ruutu

Durrann 02-24-2012 03:57 PM

Copper and Blue’s title of their latest piece says it all – ‘Jack Johnson is Not Good.’

Some interesting quotes… this is from Kings GM Dean Lombardi from back in early 2010:

"Jack was a thoroughbred out there. But he was all over the place. He was awful as a hockey player. As an athlete, you’re going, wow! Look at the way he skates, shoots, he can pass. But he had no idea where he was going. At times, he was playing forward at Michigan. You had no idea what position he was playing. But he had always been the star and he always got his numbers. Then he turns pro and for the first time, we’re telling him ‘whoa, just make the first pass and learn to play in your own end.’ How about making a read in your own end about the right guy to pick up? He was awful."

“So there you have it. Jack Johnson has some power play ability and a big reputation. He's a black hole who drags down his teammates at even strength.”

But why can't they do what Montreal did with Cammalleri and take the player out of the game to get the trade over with? Don't wanna risk the player getting injured..

both players were scratched from their games today. honestly pulling a player to trade them during the game is a douchebag move and thats about all mtls gm has done for the last year.

Confirming reports, Marek Zidlicky has waived his NTC to go to the NJD.
