please dont bring out the " what if " scenarios. that can of worms shouldn't be opened i tell you what.

Was choked at first, but it's settled a bit. Kassian has potential and will probably do well in our system. Only concern is how this will impact our secondary scoring on the 3rd line/second PP. Excited to see what happens! CoHo was one of my favorite Canucks and it sucks to see him go, but as a hockey player I know it takes grit to win games too, not just skill which we have a lot of. Wish the best for CoHo and will continue to follow him of course!

Welcome Kassian.

Id say he has a better upside than lucic but depends how things go now

Hodgson had 'C' taped to jersey at playful practice this morning. Now stands for "choked". Stunned by trade.

Hockey is not always about scoring goals.

Well with the line up we have now, we might not even make it to the finals.

stuff99 02-27-2012 12:42 PM

And was this buffalo trade the best we could get for cody hodgson?

We should have more than enough offense, and the fact of the matter is, if "our top line hits a dry spell" at a time when they are needed the most, we probably don't deserve to win. Simple as that.

rb 02-27-2012 12:43 PM

on tsn, they said an Eastern GM was choked he couldn't get Cody and was told that he was not in play. I'd like to think that GM was Brian Burke :lol

dinamix 02-27-2012 12:44 PM

this guy is pretty big too...6'4 has decent numbers in the AHL

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired right wing Andrew Gordon from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenceman Sebastien Erixon.
Gordon, 26, has registered five points (2-3-5) and six penalty minutes with the Anaheim Ducks this season. In 19 games with the AHL Syracuse Crunch this season, he has collected eight points (3-5-8) and 10 penalty minutes.

The Halifax, NS, native has collected seven points (3-4-7) in 49 career NHL games with the Washington Capitals and Anaheim Ducks.

The 6’4”, 194 lbs. forward was originally selected 197th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals.

Hockey is not always about scoring goals.

It is all about scoring. How you going to win if you don't score more goals then the opponent.

We took their bullying fine. It didn't work out last year because core injuries and not because we didn't have a bruiser.

Losing Coho would certainly reduce our chances.

Are you serious?? Someone earlier in this thread said Sedins looked like they lost the desire to win? You know getting gloves shoved in your face, beaten up, and tossed around can really take a toll on you both physically and mentally...You understand this, right? It clearly is NOT all about scoring...

7seven 02-27-2012 12:48 PM

TSN saying that Gillis told other GMs Hodgson wasn't available when they asked. Apparently there was a lot of teams asking. Guess Gillis really likes Kassian! I think Zach will eventually become a fan favorite as well, he'll throw huge hits and stick up for any of his teammates, you guys just have to be very patient with him, it'll be a couple years for him to develop properly.

Alpine 02-27-2012 12:48 PM

What's going to make this trade look even worse is that Hodgson will be given the opportunity (1-2C) that he deserves on the Sabres, and with some luck, he's going to explode. Imagine what this board, CDC, and the media will look like if Hodgson gets hot in Buffalo (I can imagine a point per game pace playing 18+mins a game) and Kassian is stuck playing 10-12minutes on the 3rd line in Vancouver.

I understand the love affair with Power forwards, but I don't see how we win this deal. If we're trying to win the stanley cup and our window is now, shouldn't we be focusing on who can contribute more today, not tomorrow?

Time to start a new thread on CDC - GM Mike Gillis - Do we really need him? If Hodgson gets hot and Kassian doesn't pan out this year, he'll get run out of town...

:seriously:

Do you even play hockey? The Canucks are on pace to win the President's Trophy for the second year in a row, with the vast majority of the line up having fresh experience of battling through their biggest rivals to get to Game 7 of the Cup Finals.

Sorry but you're wrong. Like I said, everyone hating on this trade will be glad we have Kassian on the ice next time someone is dummying one of our star players and the ref doesn't make the call.

Hodgson and Kassian are two totally different styles of players. Comparing their numbers is irrelevant.

Core injuries would not have happened if the Bruins weren't allowed to run around doing whatever they wanted.

chouchou 02-27-2012 12:53 PM

^no he won't. Gillis has been a pivotal part in building this team that is continually a cup contender. Whether or not this trade turns out to be a bust, he will find a way to rectify it.

The love affair with power forwards is something that everyone following the boston series has grown aware of - the question is was THIS the best power forward we could have gotten for coho? It is true. He has no spot as a 1-2 forward in this lineup that is so deep in raw talent.

see.lai 02-27-2012 12:53 PM

I'll miss hodgson; he was really my favorite player/prospect.. :tears:

Alpine 02-27-2012 12:54 PM

Big mistake by Gillis if he told other GM's that Cody was not available...

You are making a couple of assumptions. This core team involved Canucks having 3 scoring lines (sorta) with Cody on the 3rd producing quality points on the 3rd line. SECOND, anything can happen in the playoffs. We are the top team with skill and that brought us to the final. SO many factors are involved before we can meet the bruins in the finals, IF they make it the finals.

So no I dont fucking play hockey but I know how to watch like most people and just looking at the stats. You think Manny, Lap, or Pahlsson can step in the line top two lines if Kesler or Henrik gets injured or Cody would look better?

You can't even count on Kassian beyond the bottom 6 right now.

badgerx3 02-27-2012 12:54 PM

I think Hodgson might be the better player coming out of this deal but as other people have posted, Kassian is a RW with a right handed shot fits better with the Canucks imo

Yes, I am serious.

Top lines get shut down so we need others scoring.

UFO 02-27-2012 12:56 PM

Bringing Grabner back in the mix after an amazing 2010-11 where he scored 34g and +13, this year he is 15g and -16. Who is the true Grabner?

If Coho stayed with us and tanks next year, everybody would be all up in arms about not moving him when his value was higher.

With young unproven players, you just never know what you will get season to season save for a few exceptions until they become more seasoned.

murd0c 02-27-2012 12:56 PM

Gillis makes the big bucks for a reason, we have nothing to worry about thats one thing I'm sure about!!!

7seven 02-27-2012 12:58 PM

Is anyone else shocked that Raymond is still a Canuck today? I know I am haha.
