I believe the Hodgson trade is a good one. Cody has history with injuries that might affect him long term. At first I wasn't sure about Kassian, but the clip of the hit he made in the juniors jogged my memory. That kid has potential, no doubt about it. I hope he's in tomorrow's game. I have faith in MG, as he sees the big picture.
Kassian & Pahlsson confirmed to play in tomorrow's game in Phoenix:
Dan Murphy @sportsnetmurph
#canucks Sami Pahlsson and Zach Kassian expected in the line-up versus #Coyotes TUE. Byron Bitz victim of numbers, re-assigned to Wolves.
I was wondering what the reaction would be. Pretty much what I expected, coho is a fan favorite.
But if Gillis thinks it's worth unloading him to FINALLY address their issues, then I'm all for it. Canucks were getting the shit beat out of them every year by the Hawks. They made it by the skin of their teeth last year, but look what happened with Boston.
finally get to comment on the deal as im home.
the hodgson trade is good imo. theres more to it than you guys think. honestly if you know anything about hockey and remember the problems lindros created back in the day when his family told him what to do, in a year or 2 you'd be seeing the same with hodgsons camp.
Hodgson has the chance for 70pts in this league but if hes stuck on the 3rd hes not gonna crack 50 often and thats a waste. Its been obvious for some time he was the odd man out. He isnt great on the wing, and hes not good enough(faceoff wise, backchecking etc) to knock Kes to the wing.
Hodgsons dad runs his life to a certain extent going back to his ohl draft days where they told the league there was only 2 or 3 teams he would be willing to play for. his family pushed him to cut ties with the canucks trainers and his camp has had some harsh word towards the canucks. His father did not like his first agent due to not seeing eye to eye and resulted in him leaving that agent. Many analysts close to the canucks feel that this trade was actually brought on by his parents and agent to a certain extent pressuring the canucks and hodgson. I honestly saw this being a problem and have mentioned it before. Yes hodgson will be a good player but he would of been a giant headache down the road. Its no coincidence that he ended up close to ontario either.
As for Kassian he is still rough around the edges. But he is skilled. During the 2010 Memorial Cup he dominated it. Best player on the ice, players were afraid of him much like how lucic dominated in 2007. If you look at Kassian and gragnani together we got the best of the deal and possibly the most upside. Although the best player in the deal went to Buffalo.
I get where the people who support this trade is coming from but do you think Kassian is ready for that role now?
If people are talking about the future, this deal could have been done after the season. Also still not sure why Gillis told other GM's Coho was not on the table. Not sure if we got full value on this trade.

MG is one smart man. I bet he had an extremely short list of players he'd trade Hodson for straight across for, factoring in age, cap hit etc. and Kassian was on that list. If a team expressed interest in Hodgson and they didnt have someone he was interested in, its just a hell of a lot easier to say no and move on rather than waste time explaining it to every GM you speak with on deadline day.

We just traded our 2nd most offensively creative centre (Kesler cannot pass for shit) and I was pissed when I found out. I do not watch eastern games and my first reaction was who the hell is Zach Kassian.
However I do believe MG has good reason to do this. He either thinks Schroeder will fill in the void for Cody next year, or Cody really did ask for a trade. The trade request topic is pretty much speculation but one has to wonder why MG didn't simply say "No, Cody never asked for a trade" instead of the whole run around.
I honestly never thought for a second we were going to trade Cody. I never believed in the whole we are too stacked at C. Always thought we could move Kes to the wing (played real well as Sundin's winger).
If it was up to me I would have traded for Downie instead, he essentially cost a 1st round draft pick..
