MG basically retooled the role of the entire third line. With Coho centering the 3rd, it was always some rendition of scoring depth. You could argue Coho didn't have the support on the 3rd line wings to be fully effective at this. So MG has built a third line now that can be 100% shut down, not expected to really contribute much officially, and that takes some defensive responsibility and PK duties away from Kesler and Burrows. Kassian has the upside to be a offensive power forward in the long term, but in the short term he is still a big body who can skate and help hold other teams' rats accountable. We don't need him to be a top 6 fwd this year and run, but if he develops to be one in the next couple years that would be awesome. So this works both long term and short term. We'll see if he can crack the lineup consistently, will need to see him play some to decide. |
I doubt Cody asked for a trade. He sounded so choked up on TSN. |

Rich Nash -23 hah |
coho was one valuable asset, im not sure MG got the most out of this trade... prbly could have wringed out a draft pick also... jordan schroeder isn't ready to take coho's place for sure, maybe in another year and when the sedins get shutdown during the playoffs and we're dying for some offence... boy i'd hate to be in MG's shoes Quote:

Honestly with the playoffs coming up I would have figured hodgson was going to ride the pine a lot more anyways. Completely different game in the playoffs especially when you are 3rd line. You have to win your faceoffs and be able to get back on d first, scoring next thats the bottom six. Hodgson isnt the greatest at those 2 and probably would have seen his playing time drop in the playoffs. |
We're a victim of our own success, our future players(Hodgeson, Schnieder, Tanev) have developed quicker than everyone thought and Hodgeson is the first casualty of that. I'm sure Gillis gave it a good thought before pulling the trigger. Has he done wrong yet? The biggest bust may argueably be Ballard, but if that was the worst he's done till this point, he's doing a pretty good job. I did think to myself, it would be funny if both Kassian and Hodgeson are rentals and both ended up getting traded back after the season is over. |
^ you forgot about Sturm... |

Hodgson sounded like he was about to cry when Duthie called him during Trade Deadline |

I think some ppl are overlooking Gragnani. The guy was a point a game last year in the playoffs. Plus, adding a power play specialist would make our PP much deadlier. |
^Sabres fans are really happy they got rid of Gragnani saying he was a turnover machine. Sounds like he needs to be paired with a guy whose defensively sound, a stay at home type defencemen. |
looks like the asians of vancouver finally got their own jeremy lin then :troll: |

Meh, I think Gragnani has potentials. didnt he win the Eddie Shore Award last year. truly has potentials, we'll see.. |
hahaha I think its really a toss-up with Kassian's toughness as per cliffhanger's post regarding sabre fan's comments... on one hand, we need someone who is big and is willing to protect the teammates, along with providing bit hits as an energy guy. On the other hand, we don't want some badass who will be in the box all day long. Just look at what happened to SOB :lol |
