No. They were comparing Marco Sturm to them.

Florida signs Sean Bergenheim for 4 years (Total value N/A ) (Re-signing)

Grandmaster TSE 07-01-2011 08:32 PM

hahaha, florida signed anybody that did decent last season

DanHibiki 07-01-2011 08:36 PM

i wish jovo came back at that price

SkinnyPupp 07-01-2011 09:39 PM

Didn't expect all this hate for Marco Sturm, a super fast, steady 20+ goal scoring WINGER until last year. You can n ame all the centres you want, they don't need one. They need a winger, and not Raffi Torres, to play with Kesler.

He's an upgrade from Mason Raymond too, IMO

dbaz 07-01-2011 09:45 PM

baumgartner given a 2way deal wonder if he will be the one av uses to replace ballard for half the season :troll:

G 07-01-2011 09:54 PM

Baumgartner has been in the Canucks farm team FOREVER, and this includes after he gets traded and brought back. He clearly does not mind being an AHLer for life.

After he signed that big contract with Philly and then got sent down to the farm and eventually traded back to the Canucks, they interviewed him in Manitoba about it and he said "I don't mind, I'm getting paid to play hockey."

Which is the good mindset to have.

But I'm surprised he doesn't try to play over in Europe where he could get paid more.

If he puts up at least 20 goals this season then I guess it wouldn't been a bad deal. I guess people are hating because we already have players like Sturm (ie. Samuelsson, Raymond, etc). We need more grit and a bonafied top 6er as they say, it's not gonna come cheap though. If Sturm can stay healthy, he could really help out or second PP unit.

Wow that's a lot of ifs

True enough, but I think to get a player like that it will have to be done through trading, not free agency. Maybe they signed Sturm to make someone else (ie Samuelsson, Raymond, etc) more expendable... (hopefully not Samuelsson)

I agree with this statement. Top 6 forward will be most likely aquired through trade. We have been talking to NYR about Dubinsky and WPG about Ladd. Dubinsky will be easier to get, 'specially if Richards goes to NYR.

Where have you herd that from?

Everyone is complaining that we didn't get a top 6 forward today. Considering the contracts that were handed out, if you were Mike Gillis, would you have signed Leino to a 6-year deal? Or would you have paid Joel Ward $12 million for one good series in the playoffs?

If you look at what the teams in the West did over the past week, did any team actually improve? I would say that only Chicago did which means they'll challenge Detroit for top spot in the Central. Sure, LA has Richards, but you know what? They don't have any wingers to play with their centres.

I agree. We don't need anymore of these kinda-2nd-line-scorer-but-also-kinda-3rd-line-checkers.

We need either a true 2nd line scorer or a true 3rd line checker.

Ughhhh not sure about the Dubinsky part.

We're already jam packed with centres. Why on earth would we get another one?!

And as for Ladd, that may be a possibility but what would we give up?

Mike Richards was traded to the Kings a bit over a week ago. LA is gonna be a dangerous team this year with Richards, Kopitar, and Jarret Stoll down the middle

la top 6 = richards, brown, kopitar, williams, penner and one of their good young forwards(moeller/kozun). centres dont always have to play centre. their top 6 is pretty dam good.

This. Some people need to get rid of their homer vision and realize when other teams are going to be a problem
