More like management did what was best for the player and the Canucks franchise while satisfying the Hodgson camp's demands.

Fighting for the 8th and final playoff spot is really stressful. I guess this is what happens to the players?

Durrann 02-27-2012 10:25 PM

My reaction when I first head about it at school was more of this:

I legit screamed NO out loud in class

At first I was like "Kassian? Cool. Good luck in Buffalo, MayRay."

Then I was like "WAIT. WE TRADED WHO?"

but srsly, i think much of the canucks success is due to them being dangerous offensively throughout 3 or 4 lines, even when top 2 aren't producing, we're still able to score goals and pull out wins... but now i think there is increased pressure on top 2 lines to score consistently

You also need to consider that the new lineup takes some of the defensive pressure off of Kesler. Pahlsson shut down the first line during the Ducks 06/07 Stanley Cup victory. Obviously he's older now and not as viable, but he's still extremely good defensively and this will allow Kesler / Booth / Whoever to focus more on their offensive game.

Kassian has a scoring touch and is great at cycling the puck. If you remember the WJC where he played, he was a beast. He's been compared to Lucic, Neely, Tkachuk and Bertuzzi. Power forwards generally take some more time to develop, but in a system such as the Canucks he might thrive. He will be given every opportunity to succeed and I foresee him playing on the second line to start.

Look at it like this, where is the grit/sandpaper that is proven to be needed to win the Cup?

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Booth - Kesler - Higgins
Raymond - Hodgson - Hansen
Bitz - Lapierre - Weise

With that lineup, it's pretty much dependent on the fourth line. We would get run over in the playoffs.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Booth - Kesler - Kassian
Higgins - Pahlsson - Raymond
Hansen - Lapierre - Bitz/Weise

This lineup adds grit from lines 2-4. It makes a lot more sense to run with this type of lineup, especially going into the playoffs.

It seems a lot of people haven't even seen Kassian play yet, so give the kid a chance.

At first, my dumbass friends were like:

"DID U HEAR? EDLER AND HODGSON TRADED TO NASHVILLE FOR WEBER"

And I went :accepted: and told them "ya right, its a fake account reporting that". And it was.

An hour later, checked my phone and Bob McKenzie tweeted:

"Cody Hodgson to Buffalo"

Went :okay: guy the whole day after..

cliffhanger33 02-27-2012 10:44 PM

I actually kept double checking whether that McKenzie tweet was fake or not LOL

subordinate 02-27-2012 10:46 PM

Man.....

What am I going to do with all this Salmon now.

:troll:

dbaz 02-27-2012 10:47 PM

kassians gonna play on the third or 4th line guys, no point rushing him into a bad situation on the second line. hes just gonna grind people down for the rest of the year with pahlsson and higgins/hansen

cliffhanger33 02-27-2012 10:48 PM

Actually excited/curious to see how it will turn out tmr :lol

Yeah for sure. But I wouldn't be surprised to see him slotted with Booth and Kesler during the playoffs. That's the line I'm looking most forward to.

Agreed. He even managed to fix the Ballard situation...somewhat :lol

If Gillis sees something in Kassian AND dealt Hodgson for him, he has a damn good reason for it.

Yeah. Gillis truly sees so much potential in Kassiam. He was like "I dont see anything not to like about him"

highfive 02-27-2012 11:09 PM

Yeah ppl at CDC made this trade sounded like Hogdson was traded for some big 6'3 grinder.

I thought the same originally but the videos showed a lot of skill as well.

There's a Gilman video at Canucks.com, he said they were trying to acquire Gragnani last year at the trade deadline too. So it seems like Gragnani wasn't someone thrown into the trade but was targeted as well.

Blah_Teggie 02-27-2012 11:15 PM

You guys see the shots on goal for tonight's Rangers vs Devils game? Rangers 14 and Devils 13. No, that's not just after one period of play. Those were the total shots after 60 mins. Kinda hard to believe when have shooters like Gaborik, Kovalchuk and Parise playing. Wonder what the record is for fewest shots in a game is.
