shawn79 07-02-2011 07:34 PM

leafs would be smart to offer stamkos offer sheet

that franchise is going nowhere NEAR the cup.... might as well get a superstar and have good hockey to watch and generate good revenue :)

Yup. NYR, TOR, DET, MTL. Win or lose, games are sold our or nearly sold out all the the time. Vancouver, let's pray the Canucks don't suck under Aquilini b/c he can't afford to keep the team afloat like John McCaw with yearly loses.

Burke is never going to do an offer sheet. Remember when Kevin Lowe did it to him?

Giving Penner 4 mil a year was a boneheaded thing to do. Although the moves Burke made after that were just as stupid. Giving Bertuzzi 4 mil, and Schneider 6 ?! The guys an idiot, and overrated.

20 mill in the next 12 months? huge overpayment, NHL is becoming a joke. I foresee another lockout

I am sure a lockout ensued due to players being payed at a low wage

They were one win away from the cup. They are already tough where as Flyers got swept by boston and is trying to reform. The teams that are getting tough are just filling in wounds that are dig in deep already the past few years.

Off topic but can anyone tell me what happened to Paul Kariya and the Ducks that caused such a big fall out between them?

you would be dumb if you think stamkos will go to the leafs. I would eat my fist if he signs with a team that isn't even close to the cup or heck the playoffs!

He did not like how head shots in the game were being dealt and he sat out last season due to a concussion. The pace of the game is not the same where as 5-10 years ago. It is sad he left.. a point per game player... future hall of famer

:okay: i will miss you

:alone:

After the '03 Cup finals, Kariya told the fans he'd bring a Cup to the OC in 2004, and had a verbal contract with the GM. Then he broke his word, took a paycut and signed with Colorado because he thought he had a better chance there what with Selanne going there too. Glad that my boys won the Cup in '07 without that backstabbing goof.

I believe he can afford it. I remembered reading that the Aquilini family has $3-5 billion of wealth. Far more than McCaw. Plus I'm sure there are plenty of wealthy buyers willing to buy the Canucks.

2010s is not 1990s, Vancouver is a much larger city. Our corporate support is much stronger than it was before.

$ 3-5b ? sounds awesome. I thought that he was worth well below $1b. Also, McCaw was cash rich with $ 1.5B to play with.

True, during the NDP years, our economic environment was not suitable for much corporate growth.

shawn79 07-03-2011 12:41 AM

some of you have forgot Jamie Langenbrunner...

i wonder if gillis have made offer to Jamie Langenbrunner to play with kesler

rather have him over sammeulsson hansen sturm and the new big man

hypediss 07-03-2011 01:17 AM

how did this turn from not overpaying players to losing a decade of games to doubting ownership's ability in keep the franchise afloat?

these r sort of the last things i would be thinking right now
