Crosby cleared for contact; maybe he will be ready for play offs

Pens' Crosby cleared for contact; no timetable for return

Sentinel 03-07-2012 07:45 PM

Heard on team 1040, that they interviewed a neuro specialist in toronto. He said if he was Crosby's doctor he wouldn't let him play for another few weeks as a precaution. Said based on his previous patients, 1 more hit on Crosby and he's done.

I know this is off topic for a Canucks thread but I felt it needed to be shared

March 4th, 2012 forward Connor Crisp returns from injury only to do the unthinkable and play 58 minutes as a goaltender for the Erie Otters. He made 32 saves on 45 shots in the 13-4 loss to the Niagara IceDogs.

Doesn't Rule 48.1 have some leeway as to the player delivering the hit having to hold up the hit if they know it'll turn ugly?

48.1 Illegal Check to the Head– "A hit resulting in contact with an opponent's head where the head is targeted and the principal point of contact is not permitted. However, in determining whether such a hit should have been permitted, the circumstances of the hit, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit or the head contact on an otherwise legal body check was avoidable, can be considered."

That's all it says.. and does mention the vulnerable position part.

Kronwall's hit was legal. You're reading it wrong. To understand why, you have to look at these videos:

Tht was a dirty play. I dont think being a star player or a hitter makes a difference. Making clean checks in this league shouldnt be punished by fighting an opposing player

If Kesler makes a huge hit, chances are in today's league with today's rules, the player victim of the huge hit probably has to be off the ice for at least 15 minutes in the "quiet area" and with so many teams decreasing tolerances on concussion protocol, they probably wouldn't be back at all.

If the player being hit is hit with a big enough hit (say that 3 times fast...) to knock him out of the game for 15 minutes, then I think Kesler should answer the bell. That's just how the game is played. You potentially injure a player on the other team, then you should have to fight. That's just the honorable, sportsmanlike way to do things, IMO.

If the player being hit gets up and is able to get back in the play with no ill effects, then that player can totally challenge Kesler to a fight and Kesler can totally refuse, like "Fuck off...try to hit me if u mad, bitch!"

See the diff?

Erie Otter's Forward Connor Crisp Plays As Emergency Goaltender in OHL Game - YouTube

That's just awesome. What a great story. I didn't see the Icedogs shake hands with Crisp at the end on SportsCentre.

I don't think I could've made that many saves if they put me in net. Maybe like...10 of 50. If I was lucky.

I understand that fully; head is the principal point of contact but was not directly targeted. I just recall from watching Shanahan's videos that the player performing the hit should try to stop and less the impact if the receiving player is in a vulnerable position, which Jakub was, but happened to coincidentally lower his head and happened to make contact with Kronwall's shoulder, smack dab on the dot. I just didn't like how Kronwall lined him up real good took a stride foward and then turned to his back / side.

pastarocket 03-08-2012 12:22 PM

Awesome! Amex line reunited. -also heard that the Canucks had a team meeting this morning. Go Canucks go! Shoot down these Jets tonight!

I'm hoping for a big game from the entire team tonight.

Ronin 03-08-2012 12:34 PM

Good. Kassian had a good audition for 2nd line time but he looked so much more impressive lining up with Lappy hitting every thing in sight. Higgins has been beast mode the last two games so maybe he can spark Kesler.

kwy 03-08-2012 12:52 PM

Higgins has been a work horse, hopefully that rubs off on Kes.

haha awesome idea by the Bluejackets. Canucks should do the same for Hodgson-Kassian jerseys lol. I heard that Hodgson's jersey in the two months before he was traded was the top selling Nucks jersey.

murd0c 03-08-2012 02:44 PM

They don't need to do that here because the fans will use there own money to change the names unlike the Blue jacket fans. We are suckers plain and simple.
