While I said they looked like bitches for some of the game last night, upon further evaluation if the "team toughness" can reach heights higher than what we saw last night during the playoffs it could work out well, last night was a start Posted via RS Mobile

I sometimes wonder how much of dirtiness in hockey is the player's responsibility or the coach's responsibility?
Like look at the Devil / Rangers game, Torterella was pumped by the lineup of NJ and he sent out his soldiers to do a staged fight.
Look at Ben Eager last year, Todd Mclellan sent out Eager, Eager snaps and hit Daniel, causing the Sharks to lose that game.
IMO, I think coach's should be partially responsible for it, make sure you have a leash on your crazyass players.
Well considering the NFL bounty program
At least with the NHL it seems that it's just the players. Well, at least I would like to think coaches/managers don't tell their team to go after people...
I think the NHL needs more strict penalties like the NFL. What do you guys think about this:
If you injure someone with an act that is considered "dirty", you have to sit out the same number of games as the person you hurt had to sit out due to injury, with a maximum of... lets say 40 games, subject to a hearing (to determine how much longer if something like the Bert-Moore incident happens again, or anything else).
The down side is that if a star player hurts a role player, maybe teams would sit out the role player due to "injury" causing the star player to miss a lot of games. To solve this problem, maybe the NHL should have their own doctors monitor the injured players every few games? And if teams are found guilty of fraud, then have them lose draft picks?
Should the length of a suspension (if any) depend on the severity of injury (if any)?
Or should it be based solely on the act itself?

It's just that the game is so much faster, it's a fine line between dirty and clean.
Look at Rome on Horton hit. I felt it was a clean hit. Elbows were tucked in Horton dropped his head last minute. But compare it to Torres on Seabrook, similar but no suspension.
But I believe if they make a more strict rule where if any part of your elbow hits the head is an automatic suspension of 10 games. That would make players rethink a little and maybe they would hesitate if the opposing player is at a disadvantage.

Ridiculous proposal. Guys like Chara would be suspended all the time. At 6'3" my shoulder / upper arm / elbow area would hit a shorter guy in the head at least once a game. That rule idea would turn every player 6'1" and taller into a neutered pylon.
Just for the record Torres on Seabrook was a 100% clean hit, Rome on Horton was 95% clean. Anyone saying it's late, maybe by a millisecond, a 2 minute interference call should have been it. But if Horton hadn't been injured there wouldn't have even been a penalty. Seabrook and Horton both sucked at a fundamental aspect of playing hockey: keep your fucking head up.
