The guy that averages the most ice-time per game in the NHL gets a 5 game rest before the playoffs. |
whatever the case may be i didnt expect more than 5 Rene Bourque got 5 for his hit on backstrom and took him out for awhile now.. so its similar.. i guesss... |
I'd like to have seen 7, less than 10 (due to his clean record), but enough to send a message. |
i wouldnt mind a chicago and vancouver series again this year...rivalry is the best in the nhl |
lol just elbowing? |
he's gonna be well rested for the playoffs |

No one is going to be happy with this because its the hawks anyways Bourque hit on Backstrom for reference, not as "vicious" looking, but still got him 5. with a previous record of a check from behind on.. brent seabrook and as i said earlier, Backstrom just started skating again.. But heres the thing, did Keith get a "superstar" treatment? possibly. Was there intent? possibly. Shane Doan's elbow was pretty nasty and that looked like there was INTENT all over it. Just because Jamie Benn was okay, he got 3. What if Benn didnt finish the game? |
Like I said, I can live with the 5 games (the homer in me wants more though). But how is it elbowing and not an illegal check to the head? |
5 still not nuff imo |
The more important factor here is Daniel's status for the playoffs, without him.. :heckno: |
Silly thing is, unlike these other hits where it's either late or a check after a player makes a pass. Daniel never even had possession or control of the puck on that play, EVER. And I didn't like how Shanahan said the play was to impede Sedin's progress. Yes, it was, but he brushed off the fact it WAS from retaliation from an earlier hit in the game. Maybe Shanahan didn't like Daniel's hit either and decided not bring it in account for Keith's suspension? I'm sure Shanahan was well aware why Keith was motivated to do something so dirty like that. |
mehhh 5 games |
even if it was the remainder of the season it makes no difference |
not enough imo. all this delaying on judgment was just for show then because he would have only had 5 games max to begin with. |

Its not like the Hawks will miss the playoffs, it just hurts their chances to move up in the standings Its pretty damn tight. I love the dog fight. especially when all the pacific division teams play each other constantly to end the year. like kings/sharks have a b2b for their last games of the year Kings - 86 Wings - 93 Preds - 92 Hawks - 92 Coyotes - 86 Stars - 85 ------------- Avs - 85 Sharks - 84 Flames - 83 |
make it 5 games in the playoffs and i would be happy shannahan... |

As some have said, how was this judged, was it clearly just an elbow or is it rule 48 headshot? was this intentional or not? Was the earlier hit from Danny brought in as a factor to this decision? This suspension does leave some questions that need to be answered. Sadly, this will never be answered. Neither are any number of games from the suspension be justified as "correct" |
What a joke. Should've included first round of the playoffs. Then again no suspension will ever match Bertuzzi's or Romes ...oh hey...both involved the Canucks...what a coincidence the league loves to make a stand and an example out of the Canucks and no one else...Best league in the world and it's being disciplined like the legal system we have here. |

Rome's suspension.. If it happened in the regular season, he still woulda gotten 3-5 As i said earlier, using Rene Bourque's hit on Backstrom is probably a good comparison. That was Bourque's 2nd suspension as well. 5 games for a first time offender imo is a pretty high bar. Especially for a Norris winner. |
|
I hope Flames magically make it to 7th place and we get to rekindle our great rivalry. :tears: |
missing the first round of the playoffs would have been equal to like 25 games if it went 7 i know everyone is emotional in losing Daniel, but thats just rediuclous |

when you look at torres' suspension for hitting taylor hall, it was 4 games that carried into the playoffs. i was hoping for something similar here. shanahan needed to set a precedent and this was a perfect opportunity to do it with such a blatant hit to the head with the intent to injure. for example, if it were 3 games at the end of the season and 2 playoff games, i would have been okay with 5 games. again, not something that has been done before, but it would have sent an important message to all players that shit like this is no longer tolerated. whatever though, it's done. fuck you duncan keith. |
payback bertuzzi style in confrence finals? :D |
