We've seen two extremes.. too much and too little.

Shirokov just got traded to Florida. Do you guys think AV just screwed our chances with another skilled prospect?

^ technically they just traded his rights, I think even if Florida were to sign him, he'd be a 2nd or 3rd liner on their team, what with all their money-throwing since July 1st

Hahaha oh Oilers, not only do you play in a shit hole of a city where barely any players want to go to, now your bush league front office is pissing off other GMs. Quote: Kings GM Dean Lombardi: “Would have rather invested my money with Bernie Madoff than invest in Edmonton’s word”
In the latest development in the Kings/Oilers/Ryan Smyth trade saga, the Kings want further compensation from Edmonton because they were less than truthful about Colin Fraser’s injury. As the story goes (from the Kings’ perspective), they were told that Fraser was mere days away from being medically cleared to play. When Fraser’s foot was checked by LA’s doctors, they found both a cyst on the injured foot and a blood disorder that will cause him to miss the next four months. This is on the heels of Steve Tambellini trying to send the Kings Gilbert Brule—a player who the Kings planned on waiving. The only problem was that Brule hasn’t fully recovered from the concussion he suffered last season; meaning the Kings would be unable to waive him as they had planned. One trade, two players, two shady medical situations.
| Kings GM Dean Lombardi:
Two bad about Shirokov, I thought he looked real good in the 2 games he got, especially against Colorado when he actually got put on the 2nd line with other skilled players. But lets face it, he was never going to succeed in Vancouver, AV just never was a big fan of his, and isn't his type of player.

Cody Hodgson will be our next Cam Neely. Trading away Grabs cause AV didn't favor skilled wingers is already showing up as a mistake. Isn't that what's missing with our Canucks this year? A skilled winger to play with Kesler?

Judging by his stats, he seems like a Rypien-type player who fights. Possibly an addition for grit on the team?

if shirokov has truly signed with the KHL, than this is smart move by gillis to get something out of nothing. if not, then i'm not sure why we need another AHLer.

Played street hockey with Kyle Turris and the Green Men today on Granville Street. Pretty awesome day.
Or rather...against them. I scored a goal though!

Florida has drafted a few halfway decent players. Jovo, Rob Niedermayer, Bouwmeester, Stephen Weiss, Nik Hagman, Kristian Huselius...but overall their draft history is sad.
Since Nathan Horton is '03, the best player they've drafted...not players that they kept but EVERYONE they drafted...the best player in the bunch so far is Michael Frolik.
That tells you something.

Just read this post on CDC; cheered me up a bit Quote:
The experience our players gained from that run will be their biggest asset in getting to the finals again. If you look at the players the Penguins added the next year, they're not exactly high level talent players.
So I think it shows that it's really going to come down to our core players, and how badly they want it. Any players we add from now to September will just be a supporting cast.
There's also other good examples of teams that lost in the finals and came back to win it, not in the following season, but the season after. And also teams that won it, came back and lost in the finals the next season:
The Red Wings lost to the Devils before going on to win back to back cups two seasons later.
The Dallas Stars won the Cup against the Sabres and then returned the following season and lost to the Devils.
The Devils won against the Stars and then returned the following season and lost to the Avalanche, and then returned two seasons later to win it again.
The Hurricanes lost to the Red WIngs and then 4 seasons later returned to win it.
The Ducks lost to the Devils and then returned 4 years later to win it.
And then the Penguins and Red Wings exchanged wins two seasons in a row.
I think the point is though, is that if you've got a good core group of players that are skilled enough, and want it bad enough, eventually they're going to get back to the big dance and win it.
