After those years with Cloutier, Skudra, Auld, Noranen, Brochu, Essensa (BOB E!), Johnson, Quellet.

Happy Birthday Lui!

It would be a perfect world if we can keep both Schneids and Lui.

Edmonton 1st: Lost in Division Finals
Edmonton 2nd: Won Stanley Cup

Calgary 1st: Lost in Division Finals
Calgary 2nd: Won Stanley Cup

Dallas 1st: Lost in Division Finals
Dallas 2nd: Won Stanley Cup

Vancouver 1st: Lost in SC Finals
Vancouver 2nd?: ???

(actually Detroit is the only other team that has won 2 in a row, and they failed to win the cup, so much for that)

Remember that superstitious Olympic host city theory?

True but Dan Cloutier is hardly the standard we should be measuring our goalies up against.

IMO, the fact that people have to use the Dan Cloutier argument in his defense is more damaging to his image than it is redeeming. He should be held up against the greats of the game, not the worst. Last year in the SCF, the team didn't need someone who was better than Cloutier, they needed someone who was better than Thomas.

Found this post on HFboards:

Vancouver were 9-9-1 after their loss to Chicago on
Nov 16th, and they've gone 41-12-8 since. We've seen people hate on this team pretty hard at
times during this stretch too, which is just crazy.
The only teams to beat Vancouver in REGULATION over those 61 games were Nashville (2x), Carolina,
Calgary, Los Angeles, Florida, Anaheim, Buffalo,
Dallas, Montreal, Phoenix, and Minnesota.
Does this support the theories that this team is not showing up and lacking
motivation against the bottom feeders?

This is surprising to me as well, as a Sabres fan I was beyond overjoyed when he was traded, he was often out of position, weak along boards and a turnover machine. He is still young, so hopefully AV can teach him some D.

Update on Hodgson and Sulzer, Cody has been playing very well after his slow start after the trade, but that was totally understandable as he was joining the Sabres just as the team was starting a road trip playing every other night after just coming off a road trip with the Canucks. Cody didn't even get in his first practice with the Sabres until a little over 2 weeks after the trade, since then he's been very good, creating a lot of chances finding some chemistry with Vanek and Tropp.

The biggest surprise is Sulzer, he's been absolutely fantastic, playing very solid D and is pretty hot offensively, 8pts in 15 games with Sabres, he's been quietly playing as the best defensemen on the Sabres latest hot streak and very key in their run since the trade deadline run of 12-4-2

On an off-topic note, I finally got to the trade deadline in my NHL12 GM mode ... time to make the trades that happened in real life. It's just a game but it gives a little bit to think about since EA Sports prides itself on accuracy and realism. This post is for shits'n giggles since Mason Raymond is also a 25+ goal scorer in here lol ...

Sebastian Erixon for Andrew Gordon:
Did not work, they wouldn't give up Gordon until I added a 3rd round draft pick.
Minority Winner: Canucks

Taylor Ellington + 2-4th round Picks for Samuel Pahlsson:
Also did not work, had to throw in a 2nd round draft pick to make it work.
Minority Winner: Canucks

Cody Hodgson & Sulzer for Zack Kassian & Gregnani:
Cody's 'Trade Value' meter in the game is really high, 4th highest on the team whereas Zack's value is near the bottom for Buffalo.
Sulzer and Greg's meter were about the same. I tried to add Buffalo's 1st and 2nd draft picks into the deal to take advantage of CoHo's high value but Buffalo's GM rejected my proposal on the basis that "Marc-Andre Gregnani has a lot of potential and upside who is going into his prime soon" so I was only able to snag a first round pick.
For now, majority winner: Buffalo

Some food for thought :derp:

^ In NHL 12, Cody was a prospect who was fast enough to skate around a defender, wrist a top corner goal, and body check some 6'3 dman. He was like a poor's man Kesler in the game.

Durrann 04-04-2012 01:48 PM

Schenider to start in net against Calgary on Thursday

Lu to start on saturday and obviously start of playoffs

spideyv2 04-04-2012 01:51 PM
