Based on the definition of the Norris winner I would personally vote for Webber but we all know a lot of people who are part of the voting will see 77 points and be blown away. I don't want to take anything away from Karlsson as I think he has had an amazing season but I believe Webber is the best in all areas.

Side note:
- Webber also has 19 goals
- I believe Karlsson will actually win. I believe quite a few people will vote for Karlsson based on his amazing 77points to date and also due to the fact that the rest will split votes between Chara and Webber thus favoring Karlsson.

Definition of the Norris trophy: "defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position"

Were Weber and Chara better all-round than Karlsson this year?

Yes; Well, Weber was for sure...

To me Weber/Chara>>Karlsson defensively. Karlsson>Weber/Chara offensively. So Weber or Chara get the nod from me with that in mind. Karlsson has been decently good defensively while contributing a ton offensively, and the numbers will favour Karlsson. It's a different discussion if Karlsson was only leading by 5-10pts, but we're talking about 25 currently.

If Karlsson won I wouldn't be outraged but I hope offensive output does not turn into THE defining criteria for the Norris. Kind of like how many were arguing why Kesler deserved the Selke last year for scoring 41g when the award is for best defensive forward, something that is hard to define objectively.

Lidstrom won last year lol, so dont be surprised if Karlsson takes it

What is the best streaming site to use at the moment if I want to watch play off games from Asia? Probably been covered already but I don't come in here too much.

Don't ask for links to streaming sites, or you'll get points/banned.

Lidstrom has 7 Norris Trophies; I'm sure his earning of those have a lot more to do with his ability to put up points...He has been a shut-down defender; the same cannot be said Karlsson at this point in his career. Apart from point production, you cannot compare Karlsson to Lidstrom quite yet in terms of defensive ability...

Verdasco 04-05-2012 01:09 AM

is there an award for the most offensive defensive award? :troll:

I specifically said last year. Weber got robbed off a Norris

My ass he got robbed....The only argument one could make for Weber is that Lidstrom had a +/- of -2...but thankfully, voters were well aware that that +/- is simply a "garbage glamour" stat and the award was given to the player who was most deserving: Nicklas Lidstrom.

Lidstrom won last year because he's fucking amazing. Nicklas Lidstrom is a top...5, maybe even top 3 all time defenseman. He's not quite Orr but he's close to Bourque, considering the era he plays in. The man is a hockey playing robot. He probably should've won that aware at least 10 times. HOWEVER, yeah, Weber should've won last year but they all thought Lidstrom was retiring so they gave him the award I'm sure.

But what Karlsson is incredibly impressive, especially going from a -30 to a +19 on an Ottawa team not known for their defense. Way I see it is he's +19 on a team with a +13 goal differential. Weber is +18 on a +20 team, and Chara is +33 on a +60 Bruins team, which tells me Karlsson is better defensively than most of the rest of his team. I know the +/- stat is flawed but it's what we have. That alone makes Karlsson's season so much more impressive than the year Mike Green had 30 goals...because Mike Green is awful defensively.

Karlsson for Norris. People just assume he's not very good defensively because of his offensive output but if you've watched him play this year and last year, there's been massive improvement in his skating ability and defensive positioning.

That said, Canucks games SHOULD all be on CBC, which you SHOULD be able to get a legit stream from CBC Sports - Sporting news, opinion, scores, standings, schedules.

bballguy 04-05-2012 08:41 AM

Marty Biron starting in net for the Rangers today @ Pittsburgh; hopefully he chokes bad!! Last time he played against them, he allowed 5 goals on 32 shots.

I think it'll only allow streaming from Canadian IPs... so he would need to use a Canadian proxy.

If he's in the EU, it's even better.

When I was in Cancun, I watched from my hotel room Canucks and another sport. This was all on my portable computer.

Winning the President's Trophy is possible, but we still need outside help given that NYR holds the tiebreaker. It sucks when you don't control your own destiny.
