there's a program called Alien Davik that converts android apps to QT apps (which work on Meego) without any quality/lag issues (apparently its a very easy process) the guys who made the program though will only make it available to Developers so its up to developers to use it to port their apps over Also since Meego uses QT, so QT Apps will work on Meego so QT based Apps made for Symbian^3/Maemo (N900)/WebOS will work and Intels AppUp site has a bunch of apps (for netbooks and moblin os) that will work on the N9 (not certain on the particulars just read a meego rep say so) and meego is supposedly more alike to Linux than Droid so linux progs can easily be ported over (im not certain on the particulars) anyway the QT (Symbian^3,WebOS,Maemo,etc)/Android Library is open to Meego and developers are already working away with making new apps |
Whats the likelihood of the industry pushing out more Meego devices? It would most likely not be from Nokia, perhaps from other manufacturers? I just can't see how there's so much potential with this OS that there will only be 1 device, especially with all the years and money they've put in it. Will Nokia be supporting the N9 when it releases (firmware updates)? if not, who will? accenture? |
Meego hasn't been dropped by Nokia; Nokia has reiterated that they will continue to support Meego and come out with devices for it, maybe @ the rate of only 1 per year but they will continue to support it (Elop simply said Harmattan will not be supported anymore which is what the N9 is because its not Full Meego its like Half Meego Half Maemo) Symbian is the only one that has been dropped off to Accenture LG, ZTE and i think Huawei have said that they are interested in Meego; however its not clear if they will be releasing a cellular device or simply a netbook or even car infotainment Meego may very well be destined for the same role that the N900 had however the N900 is far from being a boring device its widely cherished/supported among nerds :) |
Then who's gonna support harmattan then? is meego capable of having a community of modders much like android? i would assume so cause afterall it's still based on Linux. |
the N9 will be supported by Nokia they've already confirmed that (after Elops failed interviewX2) and yes it'll have community support too like the N900 does and like the N900 you could always install Android or some other OS on the phone ;) edit: for example |
another video and there's some game demos nearing the end of the video very smooth very pretty nfs shift galaxyonfire2 the Phone seems to be slated for release in some parts of Europe This month (August) so we might see it widely available @ the end of this month or next |
mmmmmmmm thats actually a very nice phone. I wonder if it can download different languages like the iPhone can or is it like the previous SymbianOS and you have to reinstall the firmware to install a different language. |
The N9 looks pretty good, debating if I should get this or the SGS2 (even though I'm not a fan of Androids), but the lack of apps just might make me lean towards the SGS2 |

i think one of the videos i have in here talks about that they made it a point to.. point that out ;) noting that it is an in-demand feature from symbian users (it comes with a few languages installed and then you can download language packs) Amazon.de has it on pre-order now for €619 but as we know Amazon always has the price up high until its closer to release date and that this price includes 20% VAT (also germany has always been more expensive for phones like the N8) http://www.amazon.de/Nokia-Smartphone-Display-Touchscreen-Megapixel/dp/B005FIY8EG/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1 here's a pre-release example of the video recording |
overview of the cameras UI on the N9 and the ability to share images with NFC |
Ok so the N9 is starting to make its way onto more and more pre-ordering sites looks like it'll be released pretty much everywhere in September (not all telecom companies are getting it because Nok$oft doesn't want to detract from WP7) in retail form but not carrier. Pricing; not all places have listed pricing yet but places like Australia has in AUD it looks like pricing is on par with a unlocked Iphone4 in Canada (about $50 cheaper) but keep in mind Cellphones normally cost much much more in Australia than elsewhere We can pre-order it from Expansys.ca Search Results for: "nokia n9" - Expansys Canada the 16gb and 64gb is listed (in Australia the 64gb is $1000 which as i said is on par with IP4) don't know how much it will be here here's a 30min look @ the N950 (N9 developer phone with KB etc it was supposed to be released to public too but Elop... ) 02:40 – Pin lock page 03:50 – Drop down status bar. A maemo thing to have quick status options (well before Android btw) 05:30 – Dialler. 06:37 – in call screen 06:57 – smart search 07:30 – browser 09:30 – adding bookmark as an app 09:50 – Multitasking 11:30 – Messaging. 12:40 – Email 12:25 – Calendar 14:48 – Camera 19:07 – Gallery 20:17 – Music Player 22:38 – Maps 25:00 – Calculator 25:17 – Documents 25:33 – Notes |
This is a Low Light sample picture taken from the N9 @ ISO 200 f/2.2 http://s3.amazonaws.com/twitpic/phot...BgoQx5AXHPY%3D This is a picture taken by Nokia N9 under low light, using de... on Twitpic Anyway the phone is starting to get its release in Europe/Asia/Australia the 64gb version is sold out already through pre-orders the price for the phone overseas looks to be around $700 |
I almost thought this was another tablet. LOL Looks promising but Nokia doesn't really make good phones. |
700 for the 64gb?????? Got an email from nokia Canada, they don't expect to release the n9 meego in Canada since there isn't much of a demand, if they do end up getting the phone then it won't be for a very long time....oh well, looks like I'll order mine after the hype, probably give myself a Christmas gift Posted via RS Mobile |

For those who wants to take a trip down Mexico, the N9 will be available when it gets released aside from the countries mentioned in the link. |
Expansys etc are selling it for canada Nokias CEO Elop is keeping the phone out of US/Canada/UK from service providers as they dont want the N9 competing with their WP7 phone that will be out in a couple months but its available for retailers |
So this Greek reviewer/website? got their hands on a retail release of the N9 here they unbox it in greek and review it in english some points that are noted from a review of the review lol Quote:
Also the built in Browser scores top marks for the html5 test (higher than Apple) but you can also download Firefox for the N9 and the N9 version of Firefox scored 314+9 bonus higher than desktop safari (293+8) |
Is there a run tracker for MeeGo like Strava or Endomondo? This is kind of a dealbreaker for me. |
eCoach is available currently (was available on Maemo/N900 and the developer made a new version for the N9) it seems to use endomondo.com (i see ecoach users uploading their workout to endomondo.com on meego forum) works with the heart rate monitors etc too costs $3 eCoach (he hasnt updated his webpage though) Nokia Store: Download eCoach and many other games, wallpaper, ringtones and mobile apps on your Nokia phone and as i understand it Sports Tracker is in beta stages for the N9 (hearsay) |
I got a chance to play with it over the weekend. It's a very nice and sturdy phone, has a beautiful screen. I would say it's on par with the Samsung AMOLED. Navigating the menus was blazing fast, and this was on a prototype and not a production model. It also has great multi-tasking ability as well. If and when they could get an Android player running on this phone, I might consider buying it. |
^^ an App Player or do you mean a Media Player? as for the App Player theres Myriad's Alien Dalvik auto converts android apps to meego with no performance issues (repackages the apk) its only available to developers though since there was an uproar about piracy concerns http://www.slashgear.com/nokia-n9-an...lvik-22160809/ last we heard about it was June though maybe we'll hear more when N9 is officially launched everywhere :/ |
The N9 has Started to Ship out to retailers press release about it Nokia N9 begins shipping | Nokia - Press Nokias reconfirmation of supporting the device and a brief on developer support Nokia N9 apps and software support | Nokia Conversations - The official Nokia Blog |

^^ yeah Alien Dalvik seems to have died away and there's a new one out by OpenMobile ACL which plans on making android apps work on all platforms but also only available to developers anyway kinda big? news Intel is merging MeeGO with LiMo to create TIZEN Limo is a conglomerate of NEC Panasonic Samsung It will also be hosted by the Linux Foundation but all the work done with MeeGO and QT is being ditched TIZEN will be entirely HTML5 based https://www.tizen.org/blogs/dawnfost.../welcome-tizen so i guess the N9 will not only be the last Harmattan device but it seems there will be NO Nokia Meego phone like they said would appear next year |
