Friend imported a C6 corvette last year and total came to about $28,000. I was surprised at the value of the car... for 28k you get 400hp/400lbft V8, 6MT, front mid-engine rwd, and exotic looks. That's a lot of car for the money.

$30k... you can get a previous gen CTS-V or a late model GTO and still have money to spare.

Thanks guys for the input, tbh I haven't considered some of those cars...

Genesis is off my list completely because of the fact that in order to get what I want in it, it will cost me well over 30k

I'll check out the WRX's. and GTI's.

Im not looking to import a car from the states.

I once i down my selection to a few cars ill start looking into maintenance costs and everything.

I was honestly looking at the v6 mustang.. but i just can't find one that i like on the lot.

I dunno... you don't really buy a car like a Mustang and get the V6. At some point, you're going to wish you bought the V8 and waste money trading up.

^Agreed

You'll get the V6, couple months later youll feel you wasted money and want the V8.

I would just get the V8 to start up with, it is a bit more cash but will be worth it.

2006-2008 BMW Z4 3.0si COUPE

They weren't sold in Canada, and can be had for around 20-25k in the States. Made in South Carolina means no duties. You only pay Cost of Car + HST @ Border..

http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/2464253546.html

Those who are recommending the new Mustang should do some research on the M/T issues on the 2011s..

2008 STi - AWD, turbo, but poor gas mileage.
S2000 - Great mileage, great handling, convertible, lots of aftermarket support.
E46 M3 - Most attractive of all M3 gens, amazing performance, expensive to maintain.

+10 for the WRX. That's definetly going to be my next car, except i'm going to get the full STI edition. To each there own, I know lots of people who dispise the look of the WRX and the quality, just as much as I dispise the look and quality of a KIA but in the end it's what you like. Test drive a list of cars that you've seen here in this thread and see which one you like most. But my vote for SURE goes for the WRX

t5 fwd models start at low 30's
t6 awd models start around 45k

decently equipted. excellent car, and ride. both models have very good power. Decent fuel mileage (driver dependant).

LOTS of torque though!

I would say whatever you are leaning towards, please do yourself a favour and take it for a good test drive. Not a 5 minute around the block thing, but a good 20-30 min drive on a variety of roads. Or even better, one of those 24 hour test drives from a dealer if possible.

+1 for the C6, just about the fastest car on the track you can get for the money while still affordable to maintain, PLUS you'll have to put up with a lot less depreciation than you would getting a brand new V6 mustang. If you're looking for mustang you HAVE to get the 2011's with the new engines, that 5.0 is awesome too and It'd have to be 5.0 + big brake package for me.

The Z4 M coupes/roadsters are very cool looking/sounding cars and you can probably find an 06/07 for around 30k. The coupe obviously a bit more exotic, they've always been badass hot rods to me but the ride might be considered harsh. If you guys have ever driven the two cars the m roadster vs normal Z4 are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT stories in terms of driving, steering and suspension are very different and feel much stronger and more accurate, as well as (for more obvious reasons) sound/transmission/power/throttle response. I would not suggest to get a standard Z4, although they can be had for <20k now.

If you can afford the maintenance a 993 porsche is a future classic, arguably the best 911 of all time. The smell (yes it smells) and sound of the air cooled flat 6 are unparalleled. yet the car is just as easy to daily drive as a 350z or similar, ride is comfortable and steering is easy. The engine is very quiet under 4000 RPM and is no problem in the city. You can have them for well under 40k most with pretty high mileage though (sign of a good daily?). But maintenance costs might scare you, A shop that sees you come in with a 993 will almost certainly rip you off for even the simplest of tasks. IMO not sure if you're a guy who plans on tracking, but the corvettes and 911's are the only car you can track for a couple hours a day and still drive regularly as your daily. Don't get me wrong a GTR, evo, sti will get some fast lap times, but I've seen these cars cook their brembo's too many times at the track whilst the 911 guys just trollolol at the others, go check out a PDC event and you'll know what I mean, very few of these cheaper jap rivals can keep up with the porsches for half an hour. There is a learning curve to track the 911 but it's not really the widow-maker that some people think it is, different approaches to corners but when you get it right it's the best feeling. Anyways I think it comes down to MAINTENANCE COSTS even if you're a mechanic parts will be ludicrously more expensive. Keep in mind the 993 has hit about rock bottom in pricing, whereas 996 and 997 continue to depreciate every year.

I don't know about some of the responses in this thread on the topic of "unique" wrx, e92, gti. Aren't really what I'd call unique, not in the lower mainland at least. I still think they are really good cars though and shouldn't be discounted all things considered. Perhaps we need to understand your situation a little better, do you plan on track days/autocross with your car? is it a secondary car? does it need to perform well in the snow? kids? etc. I think the S2K is an AWESOME car, but as they come down significantly in the used car market you have punks driving them like Larry Chu Blue, and that demographic is only going up.

If you just wanted unique plymouth prowler would be pretty damn unique, they are already starting to appreciate in value because of how rare they are, I don't know if I'd really want one though I think one of the best cars you can get for under 30k is an Older NSX, very unique, honda reliability, awesome to drive. (And in best motoring, is the fastest car in the world)
