Q: Acura RSX Reliability?
 

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in the market for a used car and the Acura RSX caught my attention. I just have a couple of questions that need clarifying.

Cited on www.Auto.ca, Consumer Report said that the 2005-2006 Acura RSX had suspension problems. What are the suspension problems? Do you guys recommend me staying away from the 2005-2006 RSX then? Does the 2nd & 3rd gear grind only occur on the 6 speed transmission? Is the Acura RSX a reliable car? What year do you suggest me getting? How much is insurance?

I've already tried doing a search, and I couldn't find the answers to my questions. If the answers to my questions have already been posted please direct me to the post please.

Ive had a 02 RSX Type-s for over 4 years now, I haven't had any issues with it so far and its at 105k. Its been an extremely reliable and enjoyable car to drive

Just picked up mine more than a month ago. Took my sweet ass time finding one. Check out clubrsx for more info, u really got to test drive one to see if there are those problems u have listed.

Keep in mind that ICBC really dishes out the butt hurt when it comes to insuring these cars.

Unless you're rocking a decent discount, you may want to double check how much it's gonna cost you, before getting your heart set on one.

How much is insurance for the RSX before discount?

My friend has a Type S with just over 225000KM on it, doesn't miss a beat and doesn't burn any oil. A lot of the reliability factor is going to be in making sure that the previous owner(s) took care of the vehicle properly. A neglected vehicle could start having problems even with less KM on them. But Honda did their job by building a good engine.

I have an 02 Premium. Great little car. Feels super reliable, never has let me down.

are you looking for a base or type s?
insurance is a bit higher than most other sport coupes / hatchback
2nd/3rd gear grind has to do with tranny oil, as long as you use right weight oil and learn how to shift properly, there won't be any grind
k20 engines will burn some oil if you vtec a lot (on type s of course) and if there is a leak at valve cover gasket, but all you have to do is top up the oil once in a while
rsx is a neat car, not fast, reliable, and fun to drive

I currently own a 2002 Acura RSX Premium that I bought brand new back in 2003. To date I've had the following issues:

1.) Rotors were warped (fixed under warranty)
2.) Oxygen sensor failed (fixed at my cost)
3.) Passenger side power window unit broke (fixed at my cost)
4.) p1259 VTEC solenoid failure (currently not fixed, my car is in permanent limp mode, can't rev past 4k)
5.) SRS light turns on intermittently (scan shows driver seatbelt sensor failure - currently not fixed)


And yes, I bring my car religiously every 8k for servicing. I'm not bothering to fix the last 2 issues as I may buy a new car in the near future

I owned an 2003 RSX-S. I had 2 issues with the vehicle other than that it was beautiful to look at and drive. I love the drivers "cockpit" everything seems to be catered towards the driver.

Reliability wise? My SRS light kept popping on and off. The 3rd gear issue on mine was pretty serious from time to time while driving it would pop itself out of gear and it got quite annoying. Aside from that the vehicle was a great ride. Decent on gas, easy to service and I just loved how it looked.

acura's are reliable! maybe one of the most reliable car manufactures out there! So I'm sure lots of rsx's are good to go!

the bad: Common problems.
o2 Sensors are gonna go at ~100,000km; Simple Fix
Power Door lock actuators are a common problem - no big deal IMO
Tranny...... It all depends on how well the car was mantained. I know my car was modified and driven sprinted from the old owners, but they took care of the car and my transmission has almost no problems.
once the MTF gets old (1.5 years) I will start to feel a bit of a notchy-ness to it; once I change out the MTF its gone.

What I love:
Driving Feel - the Steering wheel is nice an firm and gives good feedback (not too stiff like my 323i)
Responds great to bolt on mods - I had Intake, Header and Exhaust with Kpro and it was really fun to drive.
Its cheap to mantain; its a Honda.

One issue that I have been having is that I go through a lot of headlight bulbs.
At one point I was replacing bulbs every 6 months. I am running the Silverstar bulbs too.
Anyone else having this problem?

I'm considering getting a Type-S too, what would I be paying for insurance monthly with a 40% discount?

Make sure you don't touch the bulbs with your hands directly cuz I heard the oil on your hands causes the bulbs go out much faster (not sure if it's true or not), use some kind of napkin when you put it in the socket. I've only changed my bulbs 3 times for like 8 yrs. Also, use phillips they tend to last much longer than osram.

you can get insurance quotes straight from autoplan brokers. just tell them what car it is and they can check for free.

SilverStar bulbs burn hotter thus it wont last as long

I actually wear vinyl gloves when I replace the bulbs.
Still does not help that much.

Total I pay is around $1300 with full discount

One of the reasons I bought the silverstars was b/c of the 1 yr replacement warranty offered.
Thankfully I only paid twice for the bulbs in 5yrs.

That isn't so bad at all. Is that for work or leisure?
