I have an ipad 1, and it is a piece of shit. I can't believe anyone ever found the ipad 1 to be acceptable in terms of how it performs.
As for the OS itself, I think once Android's puts out a more tablet oriented version, it will be by far the better choice for tablets as well. I hope that means many of the game developers make ports, because that's what is really going to matter. Usefulness of one product vs brand power of another, but all that really matters to me is where the good apps are.
one thing everyone is forgetting. you have to compare 1 phone to another. you cant say all android is better than All iPhone. each phone has their own merit. android is simply an OS like windows.
IOS is a device specific OS.
if you want to compare, choose a specific Android phone against the iPhone 4 and whatever top BB there is.
at this point after owning 3 iPhones, I really love em. however, as long as any other phone offers similar features and awesome screen i wouldn't hesitate to switch.
i choose based on entertainment value ans screen quality.
I like this thread, it's interesting.
Back in December, I was playing with my friends android (not sure which model). I was not impressed at all. The scrolling on the homescreen was choppy. Tried angry birds on it; just makes me laugh, laggy as piss. I know that this is probably not tot the best model out there but this was my first impression: shitty phones.
Anyways, how good is youtube on androids? That's the thing that's most important to me. Posted via RS Mobile
This is the ROM (MIUI) i am currently using. This video has the older version but it should highlight most of the features without some annoying nerd talking in the video.
The one i have runs snappier since it's more matured and optimized further.
I absolutely love the notification/toggle bar @ 0.20.
[EDIT] For comparasion's sake, this is video is from May, version 1.5.13 while I currently have 1.7.1. They release a new version every Friday and it's optional if you want to update or not.

Youtube is flawless, especially since google updated the app to 2.0. Alot of people seem to forget that Android is made by Google. Google is THE FUTURE. Pretty much everyting in the android OS is Google integrated.
In terms of speed, its true that many android phones were slow, but that's because the the hardware wasn't truly optimized for the OS. With dual core processors, the OS is completely FLAWLESS. speed is not an issue anymore and the OS as a whole is butttery smooth. Try out a galaxy s 2, you'll be surprised.
SGS 2 seems to be an awesome entertainment phone. Flash too!
I like these vid's , but it's a little unfair since the SGS2's specs are way above the iphone 4, what i'd really like to see is the iphone 5 vs SGS2.
I'm not an iphone or android fanboy but the iphone 4 was keeping up decently to the SGS2 on web browsing which is a good for the iphone, but I was expecting the SGS2 to blow the iphone away speed wise.
^ u have to keep in mind that the OS's are very different, so you cant realli compare them in terms of speed. Android utlizes much more resources, iOS is very very simple (it better be fucking fast! lol). Compared to previous androids, the SGS2 blows them all out of the water. You could jam it with ram-consuming widgets, live wallpapers, background running apps, etc. etc., and it would still be super smooth
I used an iphone 3gs for a year and I've had my galaxy s since november, I can't see myself going back. Theres not enough customization and they restrict too much shit on the iphone. And I hate how you have to pay for literally everything.
I was streaming the canucks game on my galaxy s from the cbc website and my coworker with an iphone was trying to as well. Only they found they couldn't unless they got the app and paid to watch the game. Thats lame...the OS is painfully boring too, and you have to jailbreak it to change things. Oh but if a new version with better stuff comes out don't jailbreak it yet you have to wait 6 months for someone to figure out how to break it first, no thanks.

I have both 1 & 2. I use the 1 at work and it performs flawlessly. In only a couple months I saved enough time using it to make up what I paid for it - now the time (money) I save is just gravy.
My wife uses it at home and rarely turns on the computer anymore. She can do all her e-mails, Facebook and web browsing on the iPad. There have been numerous polls that show people with an iPad are now spending less time on their PC and more on the iPad, likely for the same reasons my wife uses hers - there's no point firing up a PC to do such trivial day-to-day tasks. And you can't bring the PC with you to the couch while watching a show (for example).
I don't know why people seem to think an iPad is useless. If you find it useless than I think you'll find any tablet useless.
Iphone app will be out once I can get on a fucking mac to compile the app. Because Apple forces you to use their products to even develop for the app store.
You don't own a Mac? How could you develop for iOS without one? And I'm curious what tools you used to develop the RS iPhone App if all you need is a MAC to simply compile it.

WOW
I use youtube on my phone ALOT and this video alone makes me want to switch to an Android
I never understood why apple's youtube app is never updated. It's barely changed at all since iOS1!
Damn RS, influencing me to switch to Android phones.
The thing I don't like about Android phones is there's too many out there. This makes it harder for they to release OS updates because they have to do it for each phone.
I also grew fond of the look of iOS. I know it's not a big deal-breaker but it's a nice touch. Looking at my friend's Android, I feel lonely and sad lol.

yea for jailbroken iphones it doesnt come like that out of the box =| if im paying the money for the phone i want the full potential without voiding my warranty
How many hours of use are you Android guys getting on your phones? And I'm talking about real life usage without turning down the brightness or only using WiFi. I do use my phone primarily for phone calls, emails, text and web browsing and I've drained my BB during busy 12-14hr work days and the last thing I want is to constantly worry about finding a charging source.
I know there are battery optimizers out there how are they?

I use my BB 9700 os6 fairly heavy. not crazy gaming or youtube all day but Im always on it with email, bbm, browser, txt, phone, etc. I plug it in at night with 65%+ battery.

thats why u get an official google phone! (nexus s or older nexus one). they're the first to get updates straight from google

Maybe it's because I am used to fast phones/tablets. My main phone is a Desire HD, and while htere are faster out there now, it's very snappy for me. I think the issue with ipad 1 is that it only has 128 MB of ram, and ios is extremely bloated. The main problem is switching apps. It takes FOREVER for it to load a new app, say going from Safari to email, or from email to a game, or loading ebooks, or waiting for the keyboard to become responsive. Some games are completely unplayable, like Monkey Island (and some others that require quick response). It's like using a device from 10 years ago, but with today's interface. It is horrible, and if you've been spoiled by a faster device like ipad 2 or even iphone 4, I guarantee you'll notice it and find it unusable.
The only thing I use the ipad for now is for watching video on the road, or the occasional little game here and there. It's too slow for anything else, so I'd rather use the Desire HD.
There's no need to go over 0.4 megapixels on a 4" display, let alone the small 3.5" screen the iphone uses. At normal distances, I bet you wouldn't notice the difference. I know I don't, and I am kind of picky (ok VERY picky) when it comes to things like resolutions. For instance, the ipad's low resolution looks horrible on such a big screen.
So the answer is no.. not yet anyway. I'm sure someone will eventually buy some DVGA screens and come up with a way to market it as well.
