Google has an updated version of their app market coming now. Starting to look better compared to Apples itunes. YouTube - ‪A New Android Market for Phones‬‏ |
I didn't really think the lack of Flash on the IOS's was a big deal until I took an Ipad 1 for a business trip thinking it would be a good alternative device to carry along rather than laptop. I started getting frustrated immediately having to deal with Itunes uploading files including the PITA avi conversions for my movies I wanted to watch. Nonetheless, the biggest deal breaker for me to never ever buy an IOS product was trying to access CBC, TSN, and Global BC Newscast videos to catch some Canucks games during the Stanley Cup Finals but only to be relinked to Steve Jobs' bullshit explanation as to why they'll never adopt Flash. Sad to say I did miss games 1-5 during my trip and only caught the highlights on the Canucks website and YouTube app. |
whatsapp is NOT reliable! encrypted or not, there has been instances where the message is received a whole day after. it's not like they advertise downed servers to let you know ... ppl also don't take it as seriously as bbm. on a berry, users will choose to respond to the same person on bbm more and also quicker for some reason. on an iphone, users will also respond to a txt more and also quicker than whatsapp. |

HTC tells Apple to try competing, rather than suing By Terrence O'Brien posted Jul 12th 2011 4:21PM Apple vs HTCApple has proven, time and time again, that it is not shy about dragging its competitors before the ITC over patent disputes. And, while its fellow smartphone makers have never held back from defending themselves, HTC's general counsel Grace Lei had some particularly pointed words for Jobs and co. regarding Cupertino's latest volley of suits. In a statement Lei said that, "HTC is disappointed at Apple's constant attempts at litigations instead of competing fairly in the market." This is the second time Apple has attempted to block the import of devices from the Taiwanese manufacturer, and the purveyors of all things i are also currently on the offensive against Samsung, GetJar, and Amazon in patent and trademark disputes. At this rate the company is probably spending almost as much on legal fees as it is on the engineers and designers tasked with whipping up its next generation of mobile products. HTC tells Apple to try competing, rather than suing -- Engadget |
And last year HTC asked the ITC to block shipments of iPads, iPhones and iPods as well. Regardless, the source article for this story (which is not Engadget, BTW) can't even get their facts straight. They even mentioned Apple and Nokia were suing each other when they already settled last month. Don't know how anyone can take a news source seriously when they missed that huge mistake. HTC was previously being sued by Microsoft over patents in Android that are owned by MS. They settled and now MS gets a royalty on every Android phone HTC sells. Some analysts are saying the MS settlement might help HTC win its case with Apple if the licensed patents from MS are "similar" to ones Apple is suing for. Others say that because HTC has the weakest patent portfolio of handset makers that it's open to such lawsuits. |

"system and method for performing an action on a structure in computer" "real-time signal processing system for serially transmitted data" THOSE FUCKING COPYCATS!!!!!!!! HOW DARE THEY? BTW they still have to be finalized by a panel. And since they are so obscure and non-specific, there's a good chance it won't go through. Guess we'll have to wait and see! Makes me wonder what the other EIGHT were that were considered even more superfluous than these two |
^ Obscure and non-specific? Did you arrive at that conclusion by reading the title of the patent without reading the 100+ pages in the patent description (patent itself and all supporting documents)? Posted via RS Mobile |

They basically say they own the patents for smartphones entirely. One of them is a bit more specific though (where it automatically highlight things like phone numbers and emails in text, and makes them into active links). Apple is suing everyone who makes a smartphone with these patents, hoping they stick, so they can eventually go for Google directly. Since Android phones are eating up their market share, this is how they are fighting back. But in the end, who really cares? Just get the phone you like. |
...what the fuck? "real-time signal processing system for serially transmitted data" So basically data on your phone? :lol |

What did Apple ever do to you when you where a child to cause the mere mention of their name or products to evoke so much anger? Quote:
I especially like the one entitled "Modern Management Techniques" by US Robotics. You can scan this one at this link. You migh be surprised what they are actually talking about. This is how all patents are listed. The title is always vague and you have to read the entire patent description including the citations. I'm currently filing a patent of my own on a project I've been working on for several years now. My title is "System for determinng crankshaft and camshaft position within an engine". There are several hundred existing patents for crankshaft/camshaft sensors, and they have a wide range of titles but they bascially all say the same thing. One interesting thing I found is that half of them seem to be owned by Robert Bosch, but that's a whole other topic. :) Someone might wonder how I could apply for a patent to determine engine position when there are so many already out there. It's simple - my system uses a different technique from all the others, just as they are different from each other. The worst part of my application is the amount of reading I had to do. I have literally read thousands and thousands of pages of patents to make sure my idea hasn't already been done before. It's not enough to read the titles as they don't give an indication of what the patent is really about. I had to read the entire patent. Luckily, this type of sensor is not that complicated and most patents were only a few pages long. And many of them cross-referenced the same citations, so I often found that I had already read a citation before looking at a new patent. Still, there was an enormous amount of material to read. Now if I, as an individual, can take the time to study what's already out there in terms of patents to see if my idea infringes on anyone else's, then why can't a company like HTC do the same? This is why I have zero sympathy for someone who gets sued for infringing on another patent. They should be able to afford to have a whole department of people who do nothing but compare their own technology with others to make sure they're not infringing on anything. |

Please tell me you're trolling, just like you were when you said nobody uses whatsapp. You aren't really this stupid, right? right? If so, I am not going to waste my time with a response. The fail button is sufficient. |
Not trolling at all. Perhaps you're the one who's really "that stupid". BTW, do you have any patents? You ever applied for any? Ever invested 10's of thousands of your own money to try and get a patent? Do you know anything of the process at? Posted via RS Mobile |

^ Of course everyone copies ideas from each other at some point. Not just in the computer/tech world but in every industry. And everyone sues each other as well. What's funny is that nobody pays attention to the umpteen tech lawsuits currently on-going and only seem to care about ones involving Apple. The best quote from HTC: Quote:
Considering HTC is already in a licensing agreement to pay Microsoft for every Android phone they sell I'm betting if the panel decides in Apple's favor that they'll negotiate a licensing agreement with Apple. |
Here's some of the patents HTC is suing Apple for using.
So I guess HTC should start suing everyone now. After all, they have patents for power management in a smartphone (everyone uses this), a way to dissipate heat from integrated circuits (that can be applied to every electronic device manufacturer out there) and the biggest one of all: the method to sort and prioritize electronic mail. Now what was that comment I heard previously about Apple's patents being too "vague"? What could possibly be more vague than a "method to sort e-mail"? BTW, if you read these patents you'll find that only one was developed by HTC. The other two were invented by someone else, so if HTC is suing Apple then they must have "acquired" ownership of the patents somehow. |
^ y r u all mad about this ? |

This whole thread has turned into a gong show from trolling (from an Oilers fan no less, anyone surprised?) Oh well |
