Iphone 3GS Problem Hi, just bought a iphone 3GS off a friend today for dirt cheap, wanting to mainly use it as just an MP3 player since it is 16 gigs. So when I plug my sim card in it says "The Sim card inserted in thie Iphone does appear to be supported". I do in fact use a blackberry, but shouldn't the sim card still be compatible to change to an Iphone? The only thing limiting the usage would be the internet function which takes a phone call to fido... Could somebody help me? |
unlocked? |
sounds like it is locked to a different carrier. if your friend is on fido and you are on rogers for example it won't work unless you unlock it. i had to do the same for my wife's iphone. i took it to some shop in richmond to get it done for like $20 since i didn't want to waste my time trying to figure out how to do it for free. but i believe the place i went to did a software unlock b/c the lady said if it were to be rebooted or updated or something it would be locked again. not sure if this helps your situation at all or not. |
first off. what firmware are you running. |
Doesn't bb and iPhone use diff sim cards? iPhone = microsim Posted via RS Mobile |

You say you want to use it mainly as an MP3 player. Do you also want to use it to make the occasional phone calls, or are your going to use it strictly for MP3's? I haven't used the 3GS, but I have two iPhone 3G's that my kids use as MP3 players and to play games. Neither of them have SIM cards and they work. They give a warning about no SIM inserted when first starting up, but after that they work fine. |
^ yes i used to have a 3GS before the blackberry so i know what u mean, which is why im confused about my current phone. And yup i do want to use occasional phone calls and whatnot |
Didnt wanna start new thread and this is 3gs prob so im jacking the thread... So my voicemail indicator stays on and when my phone is turned on ir constamtly says new voice mail but i have mothing there.... How do i get rid of this or should i call tech support? Tia Posted via RS Mobile |
try rebooting your phone by pressing power+home together then slide thegether till the "off slider" shows up phone off. then restart. i don't even remember having a voice mail icon... |
nope, didn't work... thanks though. rebooting from power down is what I automatically tried first |
@saucywomen: my friend had the same problem. she fixed it by replacing her old sim card not quite sure if a new sim card is necessary, so try inserting your current sim card into another phone and swap it back to your iphone to see if the notification disappears. if this doesn't work, your firmware is perhaps out of date |
nope didn't work and by firmware do u mean the op sys on the iphone? I have the updated version |
