I think the issue is that he didn't actually try to run the light. I give more credit to guys who blast through yellows because then at least their intention is clear and I'll just wait until full red to turn.

This guy was quite far away and going slow enough to look like he was slowing down. Based on distance and speed, he had plenty of time to safely stop. Pretty obvious he just blatantly missed the light or didn't see the colour. Guess I'm glad I dodged this one. Would have sucked to be 100% fault for this.

You'd be at fault for sure. But some to the other driver? I don't know as he entered the intersection when it was still yellow.

The other car's nose didn't dive so there wasn't much indication he/she was going to stop. I wouldn't have initiated my turn in that scenario.

I don't think the other driver had the intent to stop. (they were just driving really slow) It's a really close call as to whether the light is orange or red as they pass the line. In that case, I'm sure ICBC would say the person with the right of way is not at fault.

I certainly agree with you though that they could have easily stopped well before the line at the speed they were going. Maybe with the dashcam footage, they could have shifted some blame to them for running what could arguably be a red light, but that's probably a very iffy maybe. The onus is on the person who doesn't have the right of way to make sure they turn when it's safe to do so.

Dash cam footage is definitely gonna be useful in this case to shift some blame to the other driver. At this point, front wheels haven't crossed into intersection yet and light is red.

VPD could definitely ticket the other driver but how ICBC determines fault may be a little different. The video evidence strongly suggests to me that Matrix driver is in violation of BC MVA regarding stopping at yellow lights.

While ICBC might say that you're at fault in this case, I feel a good lawyer equipped with the dash cam footage would be able to argue against this (see Monzon v Sasso, 1992 https://www.canlii.org/en/bc/bcsc/do...2canlii514.pdf)

I've had enough close calls with idiot drivers so I wouldn't, personally, have initiated the turn. I usually wait for some indication of braking first...but then again that guy seemed to just cruise through the intersection at a reaaaally slow pace lol

What a F$%^ing idiot, Matrix could and should have stopped. Anyhow, my friend was in a similar situation, car going straight was slowing down, then the driver decides he's going to run the light on Main at 33rd. Fortunately my friend had a dashcam, ICBC still assigend him 20% fault while saying the other party was 80% at fault; ICBC said this percentage won't affect his CRS rating. The driver was an "N" driver and he apologized to my friend immediately; his mom in the passenger was blaming my friend though.

With the dash cam footage attached to your claim, I would assume the Matrix is at fault but there could also be a chance that ICBC may put you just a tad liable for not making sure it was clear before turning. Regardless, I could see this going 100% or 75% at-fault for the Matrix. Either way, your premiums won't be affected.

this has probably been discussed so many times but ... anyone know how to resurrect a 'dead' microSD card? or have info on why they mess up in the first place?

I can see the files, I can view the files (except last 2 videos which are corrupt), I cant delete the files and tried damn near everything to format the card
samsung 128g used on BV DR650

As long as you can view / copy the files, who cares about resurrecting the card? Just grab what you need and move on to a new one. $15, 32GB and you're all good to go again.

Cards get messed up for a variety of reasons. Heat / Cold / humidity can all shorten their lifespans. The re-write frequency is also not kind to those flash memory cells. And then there are the flash memory themselves -- the common SD cards are now all made with MLC / TLC flash memory. While they offer high storage density (ie. lots of space), their re-write endurance is not all that good. There are SLC-based memory cards that you can use, and they are usually sold under some sort of "endurance" model name. On paper, their long term costs is cheaper than using the regular MLC / TLC cards, but the difference isn't all that big, and I am personally a little skeptical on their cost effectiveness...

Now... if the card has some "juicy" videos that you absolutely need to get rid of... then that's a different story...

I use a Mac, so this may not help you out.........

I get those corrupt files once in a while. I just drag them to the trash and delete them. The OS ID's the files as locked files. Just give permission to delete them. You may need to "option-delete" the files.

I then use "Disk Utility" to reformat the SD card. I erase the files using MS-DOS (FAT) formatting. It has worked for me 100% of the time. You can also use an app called SDFormatter to reformat your SD cards. I also avoid reformatting the SD cards via the dash cam. BTW, SDFormatter is recommended by a lot of people. It is available for download in both PC and Mac.

https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

Reformatting the card is actually good for the SD card. I do it all the time. My cards have lasted at least two years, some going on three or more, without any problems. Rewriting over and over is what causes issues, so format as often as you can.

You could also try diskpart to see if you can nuke the partition and recreate it.

ahhh thanks guys. nothing juicy fortunately/unfortunately lol just sad that my 128 gb samsung card crapped out. It seems like such a waste... considering that I am able to view 98% of the files on it. BTW 64g Samsung cards are $50 @ staples / 128 for $90 Which is the best deal around that I've seen

MG1 - I'll try the mac, which is a good idea, but the formatters definitely didnt work. I'll keep in mind to do more frequent formats.

Syee- damn I tried that too but create partition primary part fails (i think because the card is almost maxed out).

Not 100% certain if they'd do installs as well, but as far as purchasing goes, you can't really go wrong with BlackboxMyCar.

For the most part, I find a DIY install to be pretty easy, and I won't pretend that I'm a super handy person either. Just a little trim piece removal and wire hiding is all it takes.

I'm buying another dash cam and was going to get the same model as my other ones but they now also have a capacitor version as well as a battery version. The battery version is harder to find and cost more since it seems the capacitor version has more stock. I'm just worry about the quick power off of the capacitor version and it's ability to save the last file. Which ones would you guys get and why?

Capacitor is safer as far as saving the last file goes. The capacitor itself rarely fails and isn't really a wear and tear item, so it can always save the last file. There's still a small watch battery that keeps time typically and that will eventually fail but at least your recordings are safe (just the timestamp will be wrong).

With the battery devices, when that battery dies it will shut down immediately when you turn your car off. That battery will eventually fail (probably 1-2 years in). If you're handy you can splice in a new one but it's definitely a wear and tear component.

It's getting quite hot. My dash cams are getting too hot to even touch but still no issues so far. I'm just super paranoid they might explode or catch fire.

I only have the A118C and I have no issues with the last file saving.
I also have 2 A119 and no issues as well

I would go with A118C because of the capacitor. Battery will not be charge over time and you will have last file not saving.
