Can Telus HTC Desire HD be unlocked and work for China Mobile?

So someone I know visited Canada and bought a new HTC Desire HD from Telus.

HTC Desire™ HD | Smartphones | Phones & devices | TELUS Mobility

Can this be unlocked and be used on the China Mobile network?

If so, is it easy to unlock? Easy to do yourself or need a shop to do it?
Any local shops (in Van, Bby, or Rmd) can unlock this HTC phone?

It won't only be 2G. China Mobile offers 3G services in China, so depends on where you will be. If in HK, then yes 2G only, if in China they have 3G network.

They (pretty much the entire world except USA and Canada) use a different 3G frequency (HSDPA 900 / 2100) than this Telus phone supports (HSDPA 850 / 1900), so it will be 2G only (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900)

There is apparently an HSDPA 850 network in Hong Kong, run by SmarTone, so MAYBE you would get 3G with that carrier with your Telus phone. I don't know if that network is actually up though, they do have the rights to the band.

Outside that, you won't get 3G on your phone in China or Hong Kong.
