whatsapp?

Has anyone used this on their smartphone? Just wondering if it's worth using or not...

link: WhatsApp Messenger

thanks

Alby 08-03-2011 12:05 PM

yes

i use it religiously

!Yaminashi 08-03-2011 12:17 PM

I'm willing to bet its even more widely used than BBM now

taylor192 08-03-2011 12:43 PM

I'm still trying to convince my friends to switch, especially those with BBM. My bet is that iMessage is going to slow WhatsApp down when IO5 is released... I hope not, cause its so nice to have a common platform on all devices, not all my friends are iHipsters

SumAznGuy 08-03-2011 12:45 PM

remember, this only works when you either have wifi or a data plan.

I had people trying to message me when I was in the US and had turned my data off. I got the messages way later when I had wifi.

Roaming data charges are crazy.

Whatsapp is one of the few apps I actually paid for. And that's saying a lot coz almost all my apps are downloaded from installous. Its super useful.

iMessages will stomp everything when it rolls out.

I thought this way as well back in the days when the N95-3 was king of the cellular world.

But when I got a data pack and a blackberry I was hooked on BBM.

But whatsapp is seriously just as good imo

I highly doubt it'll "stomp" everything.

set roaming data to off and you will never have to worry about it.

For cunts who are too cheap to spend even $1 on an app

Ronin 08-03-2011 08:52 PM

My only problem with Whatsapp is the 10-person limit on group messaging. I use this all the time. Great for talking to a group of friends, which is pretty much all I use it for. I don't really use it to send single person texts.

It's only for idevices? If so, it won't take over. A true native app with cross-platform support will take over.

But it would probably never happen.

I doubt it, same reason BBM hasn't taken over - single platform. There's now more Android phones than iPhones, so are you going to use one app to talk to your iHipster friends and others to everyone else? I already hate using Whatsapp and SMS, I really want them both combined.

Xander 08-04-2011 01:16 PM

I find that whatsapp unreliable. With BBIM you get the message right away, I find that with whatsapp it's totally hit and miss.

BillyBishop 08-04-2011 09:16 PM

Whatsapp has been down more often these past several weeks than it has been before. Still, I use it all the time. I don't have MMS on my phone plan, so Whatsapp is what I use.

josayeee 08-05-2011 01:09 AM

i also find whatsapp to be unreliable. i would rather text message. imessage doesnt give off that instant messenger feel where you can update your status and profile or whatever. it's more like a text message that uses data. i hope they update imessage in the future.

Tim Budong 08-05-2011 01:34 AM

Whatsapp is fucking great
sadly as many point out, its unreliable and has been down quite often in the past few weeks.

iMessage is to Apple what BBM is to Blackberry. Single platform.

regardless, theres more than just whatsapp. and its convenient such as group chat...and yes u can send videos and shit. The group msg is perfect for planning things to do
