Wheel Bearing Puller, where to rent? Hey all, I'm looking for a wheel bearing puller to do the wheel bearing on my new audi b5 s4. Something like the one shown below: http://www.fallastarmedia.com/vortex.../small/017.jpg Are these pretty common at rental shops or am I up a tree here? Thanks! |
VW/Audi LOVE to designate "special tools" for a lot of commonplace things, but there's a chance a place like Crappy Tire will have something like that. It doesn't hurt to check. |
You're pretty much hosed. You can always make one, as i'm sure there are DIY's. Or even easier is to disassemble the entire strut/hub and bring it to a shop w/ a press and they'll help you do it. $20-40 and/or a few cases of beer and doughnuts will do. |
Hey Travis! Here's a write-up that you can follow. :) AudiWorld Tech Articles I wish you the best with the car and treat it well like it did with me. I already miss it. :( |
I guess the reason why he's looking for one is because he doesn't want to do an alignment after and it saves him time. But that type of tool is rare (one in picture) and it's a $200 Schwaben puller set. This specific one that locks/bolts on to the splash shield is rare. Canadian tire sells one similar to schwaben for 199 but I believe you can rent it from them. Maybe a Euro shop is nice enough to lend you one but that's quite rare. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en |
Thanks for the writeup John, I had seen that one before and panned to follow it, but if I can get one of these pullers that would probably make the job easier, at least cheaper! Has anyone used that one from crappy tire? I'm worried that it wouldn't have the proper sized dowels in it, or it would spin on the hub and not work proper. Thanks for the replies!
