Aggressive dogs

Are we allowed by law to fend off aggressive dogs using necessary force?

I was at McDonald park this late afternoon and some old prick's dog was chasing my dog and pin him down repeatedly and showed teeth and growling when my little guy tried to get away. I tried to be civilized at first just saying "NO!" but I almost had to grab the other dog's collar and nudge him on the side (missed) and get in between to stop.

And then the old prick told me to chill and had the nerve to ask why did I kick (WTF?) his dog. If I wasn't in a decent mood, I would have choked him on the spot. I'm thinking of bring some sort weapon form now on, like a little stick or something to fend off big aggressive dogs with retarded owners. Is it legal if it's self-defense?

That's the first time something like that happens. Most owners apologize and discipline their dog but not this scum bag and his wife. I'm tired of irresponsible owners, I wish they get euthanized instead of the dogs. I was actually thinking of adopting a German Shepherd so my little guy have a companion and bodyguard against big dogs.

Kinda venting here!

I really wouldn't care what it looked like if I thought another dog was putting my dog in danger. Screw the nudge, I'd boot it hard if I felt I had to.

I would suggest a water bottle with lemon squeezed in with the water. That way you can't be accused of hurting an idiots dog. Most dogs don't like to be sprayed in the face. A stick could backfire if the dog has issues.

I was on a walk last week on a side street in Bby. As I walk by a house a little shitzu comes barking and charging but stops at the sidewalk as there owner called them back. BUT they had a boxer tied up and he came charging and kept pulling on his rope. (he was tied up ) The mother said nothing the lazy girl beside the dog said nothing and the 7 year old boy tried pulling him back. This dog looked crazed and ready to attack his eyes bugged out and kept choking himself on the rope. My lab just stopped looked up at me like " I didnt do anything " . I just stood there and gave the dog a dirty look hoping the owners would quite him but they didnt. If that dog got loose I was prepared to boot it hard. I like all dogs but I like mine best. Dumb people, if mine barks I tend to him asap and make him stop.

If that was my dog and you did kick him, nudge him, grab him by the collar to get him off, whatever, I'd still be apologetic and embarassed. Peolpe need to take care of their shit and not blame others for their negligence.

no leash, no rules. thats how i look at it. if someone makes the decision to have their dog off leash and their dog attacks then that dog is fair game. i have a pom thats terrible around other dogs big or small. she somehow manages to get all kinds of other dogs worked up but i always have her on a leash. but if there were ever a dog off leash and my dogs aggressive barking atracted an attack from another dog off leash i would boot that dog as hard as i could and would not stop till it backed the fuck off.

My friend back in high school had his shar pei attacked by a stray and stabbed in it self defense, then he noticed his dog had blood coming from its mouth. Turned out his shar pei took a huge chunk out of the stray before it ran away.

You should also report the man and his dog to the city if you got information on them.
Dogs and dog owners with repeated complaints can have their pets seized in some municipalities.

Yes you do. If his dog did that to mine, I would probably grab him and drag him off my dog. Next is you can call animal control if this guy is always at this park.
Is the dog aggressive to others as well as ppl? IT is the owners responsibility to keep his dog under control.
If it is an off leash park, I tend to check it out first too see how the other dogs and owners are first before I let my dog loose.

Mine is always on a leash and if we walk by a dog and he goes at the dog I wait till the other dog has passed. I make him sit and tell him thats bad make him understand not to do that. The next dog we pass I tell him as we are getting close no, no, and sure enough he walked right by. He still needs reminders but the best way to teach him is right after it he has done something wrong.

Yea it was an off leash park. I didn't have that problem before. I chose to walk away as I wasn't in no mood and I was alone so nobody would tend to my little guy if I get in an altercation. As I walk away, the guy spewed out profanities at me and the wife told me to watch it. Lol. Shortly after that I heard some dog growling and fighting noise and it's the douchebag's dog getting on with somebody else.

I haven't been back there since. I only go to Spanish Bank now. I've gotta say some people are retards. Just yesterday, I saw a pug literally jump up and trying to bite the neck of a much bigger lab and the lab was trying to move around to get away. The owner of the lab kept laughing and say "OMG, so cute". I was like WTF...

I refuse to go to off leash parks, too many fucking idiots with their dog or dogs that are off leash, that should not have been off leash in the first place with the owner having no control over them.

I find it alot more peaceful and enjoyable just walking my dogs on the seawall.

Too many people use off leash parks as their dogs only source of exercise. The dogs think that they set the rules on manners as they start caring less about the owners. The dogs source of excitement is other dogs, not the humans they live with. Off leash play isn't bad, it just shouldn't be the only thing the dog does. This is why people are encountering more dogs that behave as such.

Question for dog owners:

Last week in Richmond, my friend and I were walking to our car. In the distance, two people walking their dog were fast approaching. My friend is scared of big dogs (she was bit when a baby) and tried to get into the car quickly. I am not scared of dogs so I stood in between the dog and her. The owners did not have the dog on the leash and didn't say anything and just walked along past us.

Now, I was about to say something to the owners for not putting their dog on a leash, but I'm not familiar with the laws in Richmond.
Aren't all owners supposed to have a leash on their dogs (except on off-leash parks)?

Yea, dogs are supposed to be on leash at all times unless in off-leash zones. Apply anywhere except for maybe rural area.

There's suppose to be a number that you can call to report but I don't know what good will that do. You can body-block and told the dogs off, saying short commands in a firm tone, works most of the time.
