^not happy w/ service? |
It's not too bad actually. The speeds I posted were from my house and so far I've only been getting 1-2 bars of reception at home. Was just in burnaby now and I had full reception from kingsway and boundary all the way to The One - speeds were also 5x what I get at home so at least it works fine when I need it to. |
^what phone are you using? I'm like...so iffy about switching to mobi. I live quite close to "The One". You say you have full bars there? |
The way I see it is (& I think Turbo E share the same view) is that at the end of the day, you just gotta tell yourself "I'm paying $28 for UNLIMITED everything vs double what I was paying with the Big 3.. if the data is a little slower, it's not the end of the world." |

I posted roaming charges last page and they aren't bad at all. |
Anyone have luck rooting the panache? This thing is abitch to root and I'm stuck. |
No reception at Richmond oval parking lot. Nothing at metrotown parking either but once inside I get 3 bars Posted via RS Mobile |

Once at actually inside the mall, I have full bars. Moral of the story? Don't get raped in underground parking. You won't be able to call 911. |
^ Emergency calls you can roam.. Actually, your phone will try to do what it takes to find a signal. |
I set it on manual after going on CDN roaming that one time I sent a text. It had mobi as a network but because CDN roaming was better, it switched. Cost me 10 cents. Mother fuckers! :lol |

anyone root their spice yet? i cant seem to do mine it just gets stuck at waiting for the phone. im using 1.7 super one click and i have the moto adb installed. |
Oh FYI, SFU people, you DO, in fact, get reception up on the mountain. It is, however, limited to specific areas. 6th floor AQ has FULL BARS. I can provide some more areas but none of which are as good as 6th floor AQ. |
BTW the T-Mobile GS2 is coming (AKA Samsung Hercules) with AWS support. http://st2.gsmarena.com/vv/bigpic/sa...ii-tmobile.jpg http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_gala...obile-4129.php :fullofwin: |
I am planning to get this plan exclusively for data (if their network improves down the road, I'll just switch over completely), but forking out 300 bucks just for a phone seems a bit much for just experimenting and trying out a plan. How you guys liking dem' fancy AWS phones? |
um they're pretty much the same as any other phones out there. nothing fancy at all. same stuff, different network. thats it. i had thought of carrying an iPhone around too and tether all the time but, well. thats just stupid. you cant leave tethering on all the time cuz its a battery killer. its also a pain to turn it on. unless theres a 1 click solution i don't know about (likely) its just not practical. EDIT: found a one touch solution, see post below |
^Root the phone and certain roms have the wifi hotspot feature as a widget. I really hope mobi improves the network...It's good now (for my uses) but if it reaches something like 75% coverage in the city and indoors as what rogers can offer, i'd be super happy. My only question is..are we ultimately jewed since it's operates only on the 1700 band and that isn't particularly great penetrating walls. Not sure how acquiring a lower frequency would work (as per some rumours). |

Rogers has had all this time to get more towers and improve their existing towers whereas Mobilicity and Wind are just new comers to the game. I would suspect that with time, they will not only get more towers but better hardware for those towers as well. It also has a lot to do with the phone your using opposed to the frequency you're running on. |
1700Mhz band doesn't have very good signal penetration properties. |
It means their towers have to be a little closer together. It shouldn't be a big deal once a network is built. Telus and Rogers both own 1900 PCS. I don't know what they're running on it, though. |
found a free widget in the Android store :D One touch tethering :D EDIT: look for: "tethering widgit" or "hotspot widgit" both do the same thing. derp |
