On the side note, I get dropped calls from rogers from time to time and laggy network like sending SMS. I don't know if its just me or its the network problem. I have no clue how bad mobil is though, but I guess the best bet is to try it

I recommend the Nexus S, as I've read that the HTC Panache has been getting a host of hardware problems, particularly if you plan to root the phone. Another plus for Nexus S is that it will be getting the STOCK Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 update, if you plan to stick with the stock rom.
i'm a person that probably wont' do any rooting at all and i heard that panache is great out of the box. i'm a very simple phone users, so everything here is just a bonus since i've had my SE w580i for like 4 years now. pretty ancient. i also have an ipod touch for apps and games/music.

Give Mobi a shot, if you're not happy with it, switch to Wind. That's the beauty of being contract-free.

Well for me, I will choose the Nexus S alone because of the AMOLED screen, imo, it's superior to that of the S-LCD (HTC Panache), and you get the raw Android experience with the Nexus S. So, for the best stock experience, I will definitely choose the Nexus S, as I mentioned it's getting ICS 4.0 update soon and without the hardware problems..

Nexus S comes unlocked, Panache does not.

Just saw on RFD if you use promo code

2OFF

You get $2 off monthly fees. Quoted from RFD:

"Good news for Mobilicity customers! If you are setup for automatically monthly payments, you can get an additional $2 off your monthly bills with coupon code 2OFF. Supposedly, this credit will stick as long as you maintain automatic monthly payments. That brings the already impressive $25 Unlimited and $40 Ultimate Unlimited Plans down to $23 and $38, respectively. Those are great prices!

This should be good for new and existing customers. You should be able to simply apply the code once you have logged in at Mobilicity.ca (assuming you have signed up for automatic payments)."

i just tried it and it works

EDIT: they gave me $4 off on my account

Reposting with updates Oct 19/2011

BTS plan EXTENDED till OCT 31 presumably

For those late top the party I'll try to Summarize everything:

The plan is supposed to end at the end of SEPTEMBER. Don't wait too long!

NO YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A STUDENT. It's open to everyone, it's just a name.

To get on Mobilicity, you need an AWS frequency phone like the Samsung Nexus S (not from Fido/Rogers/Koodo). Wind phones will work if they are unlocked. Many T-Mobile phones also work if unlocked as well.

$25 Back To School Plan includes:
Unlimited Data
Unlimited Local Calling
Unlimited Text & Picture Messaging
Mobilicity to Mobilicity Calling
Caller I.D.

$40 Back to School Plan includes:
Unlimited Data
Unlimited Long Distance to Canada & the U.S.
Unlimited Global Text Messaging
Unlimited Local Calling
Unlimited Text & Picture Messaging
Call Waiting
Call Forwarding
3-Way Calling
Voicemail + Caller I.D.

Promotions:

-(EXPIRED)Port in your number and take either plan and get $50 credit (My Wallet) with the $25 plan, or $100 on the $40 plan(EXPIRED)
-Sign up (by calling in) for the Automatic payments and get $20 credit.
*My Wallet = when you setup an online account, you have a thing called My Wallet. Any credits you get go there. You can use the $ to pay for anything (roaming/long distance/add ons/pay your bill) or buy phones etc. Cannot be converted to Cash.
*The credits will be distributed in monthly installments of $10-$20/ month, not a lump sum.
-Cheap phones
*NEW* enter promo code 2OFF and get $2 off your monthly bill forever!
-Port in BEFORE Oct 23 and get 1 month service FREE!

Things to consider:

CONS
-Mobi (like Wind) is a small company, they don't have as many towers and therefore, worse reception than Rogers or any of the Major companies = dropped calls, dead zones, no service in underground areas.
-Dealers seem a little underhanded making up deals as they go. Be wary.

PROS
-Cheap as hell, not likely to ever be offered again. Unlike Wind who's $29 plan is only good for 12 months.
-Tethering is FREE, everyone else charges.
-NON contract. leave anytime you want, no penalty.
-My Bill every month is ($25 BTS plan) $28 AFTER TAX. everything is included. No System Access fee/911 BS.
-Plan is good FOREVER, sell it to someone else for $14,000 in the BST forum like a ****** later.

Hm...tempted to switch to mobilicity. $25 plan looks really good, except I have to add $8 for voicemail. With the $40 plan, it says unlimited LD calls to Canada/US and unlimited global text messaging. So if I'm in US and call Canada, there is roaming charge on the call, but is there roaming charge on the text?

How is reception inside buildings such as regular retail stores and hospitals (e.g. not a concrete highrise)?

^ Yes, there is a roaming charge for a text, regardless of where you are in North America, if you're outside their "zones". 10¢/txt I believe it was, 20¢/min for voice. I think it was $1.50/mb for data, roaming... someone correct me if I'm wrong...

There's a charge to send or receive a text, if roaming. It's 10¢ either way.

The $25 plan offers north american texting, from what I can tell, too.

Okay, I'm going to check it out tomorrow. The one near my house at 2 and blundell is closed by the time I get off work. Is there one in Lansdowne? On the mobilicity website there is a location at lansdowne, but there is none listed on the lansdowne centre website directory. Any idea where in lansdown it is?

These two promo plans are really enticing...especially the $40. Guaranteed for Life god damn....

I've read all possible mobilicity/WIND threads on here/RFD but I would like a more recent opinion on Mobilicity.

I'm mainly in the Lower Mainland so UBC/Vancouver/Richmond/Burnaby. It seems that a lot of you have issues with reception inside buildings and that reception is fine outside.

A few report certain dead spots and dropped calls which is the biggest concern to me. Data speeds not so much since I my as well do my app downloads with WIFI (faster yo). Has anyone experienced any dropped calls or an amount that causes them to fed up?

Mobilicity is getting a lot of love in this thread but if I could get more details on what I mentioned as well as voice quality and data in general then that would make my move much easier (will sacrifice SGSII for Nexus S if it means having a similar Rogers experience without worrying about getting shafted).

Right now my Rogers retention plan is quite good for $47.50.

So TL;DR or my point - tell me about the reliability of Mobilicity in Vancouver/UBC/Richmond/Burnaby. Having no reception is a pain and I need the reliability of having reception/no dropped calls.
