I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a phone. Nexus S serves me way better than a panache would so for me, a Nexus S is the better phone.

rexsomnii 10-25-2011 10:54 PM

What was your pick over the Panache ?

What were you looking for in a phone that the Nexus S is now in your pocket ?

Pure Android, first dibs on ICS, better/larger screen, NFC (lol) VS Trackpad, Hardware buttons, expandable memory, heard Panache was difficult to root as well

As for price it seems like Panache is a little cheaper but I'd go for the Nexus.

Choices are limited, brah.

It's not a bad phone...but it depends if you're an elitist or not, haha.

I'm a snob and it doesn't do much for me. I much prefered my SGS captivate.

However, the phone takes some warming up to and after a while, it's okay. I use it day in and day out without issues (flashed to MIUI + Go Launcher).

:lol

It's hard to explain.

Why not test out both phones prior or just compare specs? I'm sure you can get two friends or even meet up with two RSers with the phones and just play with it.

I know that may sound weird but it's the best way to make the best option for yourself.

Got a link on how to root it?

FerrariEnzo 10-25-2011 11:43 PM

i would never get another HTC device... i have the T-Mobile version and it sux...
I would get the Nexus S but i think im gona hold off for the new Galaxy Nexus

rexsomnii 10-25-2011 11:52 PM

Holy hell I spent the last hour watching people review Google Nexus S vs myTouch/Panache . Every review / comparison is around 15 mins long. It's really hard to choose now.

Usb tethering to Nexus S
LED screen vs TFT goes to Nexus S
Camera quality goes to Panache
Memory expansion and RAM goes to Panache
Physical buttons goes to panache
DO NOT WANT THE SENSE.
the list goes on..

Most are saying they wont go back to HTC.. so I'm gonna go with you guys on that.

i got the panache for a few days now. it drains batteries like a mofo. i'm thinking of getting the nexus s which comes automatically unlocked from mobi. should i exchange for the nexus? i'm new with android phones so i don't think i want to dl roms just yet. will nexus be a good phone for just dling widgets and apps or do i need to dl roms to get the full experience?

also, my phone (panache) restarted on its own once in standby mode. i have no idea why this happened but it hasn't happened again.

also another noob question, but for the first few days my phone had a good 20hours before batteries drained to 20% with network connected 24/7. i played around with fast boot so i kept shutting down my phone and turning it back on. would this mess the battery up? today i got 100% from leaving the house to 75% in 3 hours. i was assuming that the bcit building had bad reception and since i left network on, it kept trying to find a signal?

sorry for the noob questions.

Simplex123 10-26-2011 12:08 AM

They'll both perform basically the same if you just want widgets and apps. Roms will allow you to customize deeply and will add a few features to your phone like equalizers and over/underclocking abilities
It's not that difficult if you follow every step of a guide carefully. You should find a long and thorough guide if this is your first time.
I'm using SuperAOSP 8.6 (based off CM7) on my Nexus and it's been great!

stereo12 10-26-2011 12:09 AM

Panache is great, the build quality on that from what ive seen is worth the the price.

Alphamale 10-26-2011 12:15 AM

^Battery life will be deplorable if you have bad signal. Also, the battery will need to be run for a few days and up to a week before its draining behaviour stabilizes.

Videotron/Mobilicity Panache thread - xda-developers

I'm gonna tell you ahead of time it might take you a while. I've rooted my SGS before (although that took a while before I found an "all-in-one" tool) and it still took me forever as I ran into errors and what not. Best thing you can do if you run into errors is to start the process from the beginning again (ie, if step B fails but step A is okay, just re-do step B from the beginning).

My battery life on the panache is okay..but I turn my phone to airplane when I'm at work because a) I can't use it while working and b) I don't get reception anyways :fuckthatshit:.

I think any phone with mobi is gonna have so-so battery as the nature of the (young) beast would have it such that you will often or sometimes frequent areas of low or no reception for extended periods at a time.

yameen 10-26-2011 12:23 AM

^alphamale. can you tell me your typical daily usage and how often you charge your phone? i'm going to assume it's daily but how many hours before you get to 15-20%?

Even for the nexus, you're going to need to charge daily.

Unless you have data off, even on the standby the battery is going to hell.

After a day of typical use, I would be around 30-40%.

Psykopathik 10-26-2011 08:24 AM

My nexus S goes down to 30-40% left daily.

you wouldn't need advance task killer for either phone since they're on Gingerbread. They have it built in. And for me I found that Juice Defender actually killed my battery more.

yameen 10-26-2011 10:54 AM

yea apparently you can view your running apps and kill them there rather than using juice defender/task killer which may drain more batteries.

noob question. is launcher pro plus another alternative instead of rooting. also, if i purchase launcher pro plus, am i able to transfer that to phones or is it a one time download to that phone?
