i am tethering right now. no additional charge.

Liquid_o2 08-15-2011 12:52 PM

Nexus S has tethering?

I'm on the phone with Rogers retention right now.

Edit: Rogers retention offered me $68 including tax for my10+1GB data. And that's only if I sign up for another 3 year contract. :(

Psykopathik 08-15-2011 05:42 PM

promos usually go 1 month. however they can still end anytime.

AVS_Racing 08-17-2011 01:59 AM

so hows the reception? i don't know if i should jump on this or not

GLOW 08-17-2011 06:26 AM

a screw it, i'll probably jump on board this weekend and grab a nexus s. if i'm gonna put $ towards a phone it might as well be a decent one. too bad they don't offer the lg optimus 2x like wind does. i would have liked to have given it a try.

the one dead spot i get are in elevators and strangely, Canadian Tire on Grandview Hwy. upper parking lot. no service at all outside Starbucks.

Hwy 1 is great from Boundary to United BLVD. stream YouTube all the way today lol!

you can always just buy one from Wind and unlock it (if needed) then sign up with Mobi.

Tethering is allowed at no additional charge. I've tethered for a month problem free. In case anybody asks again,
My plan includes unlimited data, is tethering allowed? | Mobilicity

ImportXxX 08-17-2011 05:04 PM

you get what you pay for. A friend of mine just went from fido to mobilicity, and most of the time i call. It goes to his voice mail or when we do connect. I wouldn't be able to hear everything he saids

way2quik 08-17-2011 06:07 PM

That's a recurring problem. The reception at my place is perfect yet my friend gets redirected to my voicemail from time to time.
Also, data is sloooooooooow. I don't know why, but my mobile phone can never seem to reach the speeds I get when tethering. It's like using dial-up on my phone. Until Rogers or Telus offers anything near the $40 plan, this is as good as it gets.:woot2:

AVS_Racing 08-17-2011 07:40 PM

hm... i spoke to a rep at mobiliicity today and they said no service at sfu =( anyone confirm this?

NSX 08-17-2011 10:56 PM

^ yup neither does wind.
Apparently new companies have to be in business for 5 years before they are allowed to put up towers at SFU. Something along those lines....

If you look at their coverage, its balls at SFU.

So no service makes sense.

I thought about that, but the mobil rep on the phone said i have to buy a sim card at $20 if i don't get a phone from them, plus the optimus at $445 it's over $100 more than the nexus. considering the reviews for it are average, i'll probably go with the nexus. i hope 1gig app space & 15gb memory is enough. though i heard you can partition the memory for app space. can't wait for the weekend to go sign up!

i just hope i don't live in a deadspot lol
i'm by rupert/kingsway so i'm guessing not

Psykopathik 08-18-2011 10:14 AM

if you already signed up, called customer service and enroll in the prepaid program and get $20 credited to your account!

Signed up for Mobilicity on Tuesday with the HTC Panache.

My house is on the very edge of their coverage area (Fleetwood). 2 blocks southeast of my house is not covered according to their maps. With that said, I get 2-3 bars upstairs in my house, but it dies off completely when I go downtstairs to my kitchen or family room which is unfortunate.

Yesterday though I was out and about and got good reception in most places, 3-4 bars in Guildford, PoCo, East Van and Downtown Van. Even in Steamworks which is a brick building I was getting 2 bars. Only places I completely lost reception was in a parking garage (all cement), and for some reason at Vanier Park which was odd.

It's unfortunate my house has spotty coverage at the moment, but since I am moving to downtown Toronto in September (and the GTA is supposed to have the best mobilicity coverage), I feel pretty confident that this will work out pretty well.

what made you choose the panache over the nexus?

Has more weight to the phone because the backing is anodized aluminum and there is metal trim around the edges. Feels a lot more solid. Didn't like the plastic feel of the Nexus S. Also the Panache has a dedicated camera button, expandable memory and an indicator light.

Nexus has a better screen and vanilla android, so it just depends what matters most to you.

CORDV6 08-18-2011 11:15 PM

I just signed up and got the bold which was $499+taxes.
Plan is $25. unlimited everything +$5 for BBM.

GRAND TOTAL each month $33.60 taxes in.
Cant beat that! however the reception its okay not the best i must say compared to rogers.I cant get reception in my basement. Cant go wrong tho for $33.60/month. Hopefully Mobilicity expands its towers so I could get better reception all over the place.

UNLIMITED DATA,TALK +TEXT and no BS fees FTW!

ShadowBun 08-18-2011 11:53 PM

so anyone know where I can get the nexus s for $300?
been hearing people were able to get it for this price

FerrariEnzo 08-19-2011 12:42 AM

how is the data speed on Mobi now compared to Wind...

im getting horrible speeds on wind.. 1.5mb is the best i can get.. i have the HTC Glacier (myTough4g/Panache)
