With the potential auction bidder deadline coming up in 2 weeks, and the auction itself being 3 weeks away, it seems doubtful that their marketing dept is still going full throttle with new promotions and so on. They are literally missing out on the busiest shopping season...

Mobilicity dropped their $45 dollar plan to $29.
copied from their website:
For only $29/month, unlimited

North American Long Distance
Global Text

my mom is currently with these guys, wondering if we should switch to wind or just stay put. phone coverage is never an issue as she never goes underground parking or out into the boonies.

that plan is actually much better than my wind bts plan just because it's the same price but with the 30mins roaming and voicemail. voicemail doesn't matter much since i have freephoneline enhanced voicemail. but mobi is dying isn't it/

Damn... Time to go have a chat with them to upgrade my plan. I'm paying $29 with Mobi right now, and I don't have a lot of those features...

I never had a dropped call on Mobilicity's network.
Only time my calls were dropped/cut was when I entered a dead spot.
Data is still shit, slow and timeouts.
Your choice.
I took the gamble the last time Mobi had this same plan for $30 (I was paying $40 minus the 30min roaming). I made up for the $40 admin fee Mobi charged.

Does anyone have experience with Mobilicity's quality of service as far as their roaming is concerned? Is the coverage acceptable? And when I am within the city (ie. technically still under Mobilicity's coverage), but the phone isn't receiving Mobi's weaka$$ signal, would it be smart enough to switch to a stronger roaming signal instead?

| Mobilicity wins court approval for new debt financing - The Globe and Mail
Mobilicity wins court approval for new debt financing
A Toronto judge has approved a new round of debt financing for Mobilicity that will allow the company to register to bid in an upcoming auction of wireless airwaves.
The cellular carrier managed to secure the financial backing to register for the auction at close to the last minute, with deposits due on Friday.
The move sets the company up to compete with fellow startup Wind Mobile for airwaves reserved for new entrants already operating in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta.
Mobilicity, which has been under creditor protection since September, 2013, reached an agreement to enter into a second debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing for $65-million from some of the company’s existing debt holders, which Justice Frank Newbould of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice approved Wednesday morning.
The agreement is structured off an earlier DIP financing arrangement for $30-million the company entered into when it first filed for protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act.
A group of Mobilicity’s creditors, who together hold the majority of its debt and are referred to as the “ad hoc committee” in the court proceeding, have largely been controlling decision-making regarding the company’s future.
The new financing comes from “certain of the noteholders who are part of the ad hoc committee,” according to a filing by Ernst & Young Inc., the court appointed monitor of the company’s creditor protection process.
Toronto private equity firm Catalyst Capital Group Inc., which holds about 30 per cent of the company’s debt, has been at odds with the ad hoc group of bondholders and was not part of the latest debt funding. A spokesman for Catalyst, which had indicated in November it was open to financing Mobilicity’s participation in the auction, declined to comment Wednesday.
Justice Newbould also granted Mobilicity’s request for an extension of a stay of legal proceedings against it to May 8.
The federal government structured the auction of spectrum in the AWS-3 (advanced wireless services) frequency band to reserve 60 per cent of the airwaves for companies already providing wireless services with less than 10 per cent of national market share and less than 20 per cent of market share by region.
Mobilicity and Wind are the only two players that appear to qualify to bid on those set-aside licences in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta. If Mobilicity had been unable to place a deposit, Wind could have acquired those licences for the opening bid price of about $62.5-million.
A spokesman for Industry Canada said in an e-mail Tuesday that the ministry will review the applications received Friday and publish a list of bidders that qualify under the auction rules on Feb. 13.
The deadline for sealed bids in the AWS-3 auction is March 3. Deposits for another auction of airwaves in the 2,500-megahertz frequency are also due Friday, but Mobilicity said last week it does not plan to take part in that auction, which will be held in April.
Mobilicity said that if it plans to actually place a bid in the AWS-3 auction and bid more than $65-million, it will apply to the court for further approval of additional funding.
Seriously just let mobi die and let wind take over.

As crappy as Mobility's service is (in terms of coverage, speed, etc.), I still think it is a good thing for the general public that Wind doesn't automatically become the bid winner of the new spectrum. A little competition to keep the parties honest, you know?

So I received a text message from Mobi this morning saying that they have not received my monthly payment, and that I would get cut off if I don't pay them. I verified that all my payment information is up-to-date on their records and that they have already collected the current month's payment (ie. bill already charged to my financial institution account).
When I called in, their customer rep acknowledged that they are experiencing some problems with their payment system right now, so they know the problem is on their end. He did some work on the system so that I wouldn't get cut off tomorrow, and I appreciate that. But the service rep proceeded to ask me to provide them with proof of payment for this month, and I find that rather ridiculous. After all, if they already know that the problem is on their end, why are they making me to spend time on proving that I have already paid? They should be the one spending the time to investigate and verify that everything is right. As a paying customer with no fault on my part, I should not be made to do the work for them.
The (lack of) quality of their technical service (ie. poor reception) is unimpressive as it is. This latest episode of non-service may just be the last straw...
I really need to look for something else...

Need to find out if Wind's $39 promo can be used alongside the Mobi porting. From their website, it seems like it is meant to tie in with their $35 plan. But personally, I don't see why they wouldn't want to take me in on a higher dollar plan.
Will have to find out.
