I love it! In the top 3 we have a light weight, and a 200lber. Really shows how something like this can be a level playing field for all weight classes!
Challenge: BENCH PRESS (*with your body weight worth of weight, including the bar). as many as you can in a row
rules: do as many full bench presses as you can in a row without stopping. do not stop for longer than you would in a regular set.
must go to your normal depth within 2 inches of your chest. try not to bounce the bar off your chest as that is poor form.
why?: Bench Press brah! Fantastic upper body lift using chest, shoulders, arms. King of the ego numbers lift!
*eg. if you weigh 170lbs. bar (45) + 45x2 (90) + 10x2 (20) + 5x2 (10) +2.5x2 (5) = 170lbs
(if you are unable to bench as much as your bodyweight, lift as much as you can lift at 5 reps or more and make a note in your results. everyone can play)
Post up your body weight, along with your result for comparison too like follows:

this is strictly for fun, so use your own honor and dont cheat.
Fuck Hal0 wins this one! haha On a side note I tried the squat challenge again today and got 26. After the first my rep my legs were screaming "TO SOON JUNIOR" but I had someone else there counting so I couldn't pussy out haha.
Since my max is only 230lbs for bench I don't anticipate me getting more than 7 reps @ 200lbs.
What did you guys do to warm up for your squat attempts?
I lifted 185 for mine. so i did 10x135lbs, 6x185lbs, 6x225lbs, which is my usual warm up anyway. then did my challenge set. doing the 225lbs got the legs fired up and ready to go and made the 185 feel light as a feather
Not me I did the opposite. I did 1 set of bar only for 20 reps. 115 for 20 reps, then 1 set of 165 for 12 reps. Then some standing high knee jumps for 10 then did my bodyweight set. Just wanted to get the blood flowing to the legs without really tiring them out with any kind of actual weight.
^ Same. I think he's just saying to not bounce it off your chest, as that's bad form and using momentum.
I never feel like the rep is a rep unless the bar touches my chest. I say a light, soft touch is fine

because depending how long your limbs are, going all the way down to your chest puts an insane amont of stress on your shoulder/rotator cuffs.. Most asians can get away with it because they are sub 5'9
next time you're watching people bench press, watch where the elbows of a guy with long arms end up vs a guy with short arms. a guy with short arms can touch the bar to his chest with his upper arms nearly parallel with the floor, a guy with long arms would have to bring his elbows much farther down to do the same.
Ya, the one on Gilmore. It's the best gym I've found yet. 5 minute drive from home, never too crowded, and relatively low douche headcount.
When did you join? I left for those exact reasons last year. I assume when Steve Nash Fitnessworld opened, most of Golds members left. High douche count, heavy traffic, felt like a shitty club in there.
Missed out on the Squat challenge! JSilver 18 @ 157lbs
