Need help on installing a spoiler that requires rivet for screwing

Hi all,

So I got an Evo X spoiler that I need to install...however, one of the mounting holes require you to insert a rivet in the trunk in order for the screw get grip onto the spoiler.

My question is...how do you insert that rivet? I understand that you have to do it with a rivet puller/ gun which I don't mind buying from home depot...but then from the research I have done, it seems like those rivet puller is meant for like those nail looking style rivets instead of like a screw cap kinda thing that the spoiler needs?

Regular rivet that is used for rivet puller/ gun:

The rivet for the screw to get grip on (golden piece):

Another look from one of the guides:

So it seems like a puller/ gun was used in the first guide...but then it doesnt seem like the golden piece would feed right into the puller/ gun?

Am I missing something here?

And yes, I know that there is an alternative solution which is to drill the trunk and bolt it right down...but i would prefer to do it the OEM way if it's doable.

Thanks in advance!

We call those popnuts or rivnuts. It is a special tool most likely not available at home depot or rona. You should be able to find one at most any industrial fastener place and even Princess auto sells em. We have em here too but not for loan. If you like mark where you want it come by and if I have the correct insert I will be more then happy to pop it in for you.

well the rivnut should be taking a 10mm screw...but its ok, i can buy those from rona or something...

it was how-to get the rivnut secured onto my trunk that was causing me headaches...but now i know the mechanics behind it i shall be good!

thanks for the offer!
