Sportchek Fall Friends/Family Event Sept 28/29.

Hey guys,

I've been getting many PMs of people asking me when Sportchek will have another Friends/Family event.

I just got confirmation today that the next event will be Sept 28/29th. I don't have more details yet, but I would assume the discount is same as usual, 25% off Reg, 10% off Sale items.

I will post the coupon as soon as I get it.

By that time we should have a selection of 2011/2012 snowsports Hardgoods, Outerwear out already, great opportunity to pick up a Nuptse jacket, or a Canada Goose or other items that never go on sale.

Feel free to ask any questions here or via PM.

Sneakers, Casual Shoes, Athletic Shoes Online | Eastbay.com

Still cheaper than SportChek even with the F&F sale. In fact, it was a SportChek employee that originally told me about EastBay.

Don't forget that Eastbay has coupon codes floating around, as well as their own F&F sales.

:D Consider it a friendly reminder. I only use SportChek now to try on sizes, EastBay beats even the SportChek sale prices by a lot.

20% codes are fairly common, yet now some items state that coupons don't apply, like most of the UA clothing.

Its tough to compete with the online market for pricing.
However, some people still prefer to shop the old fashion way, in a retail store.

But thanks for sharing the info taylor

Eastbay's not local (I couldn't even find out where they're from... are they purely an online store?)

I can't buy any hockey related stuff there.
And online shopping can be "messy" when shipment takes forever or gets lost.
Some people would rather pay the extra $30 or whatever just to get the item as soon as they pay.
so it's not for everyone.

how much is the shipping though?
I don't want to fill in all my info just to find out. Can anyone tell me if the shipping rates are reasonable?

Do you factor in the duty fees?

Yes you cannot buy hockey stuff, yet you can get other types of athletic gear. Dick's Sporting Goods is another great online store (with retail stores in the US) and does have hockey gear, as well as much more athletic gear than EastBay. I have ordered from Dick's Sporting Goods until a SportChek employee recommended EastBay.

That's a reason why I post this everytime, a SportChek employee recommended Eastbay cause it even beats their employee pricing.

If you ship to Point Roberts it'll arrive within a few days and cost $5-20 (or less if you use a free shipping coupon code). If you ship to Canada it takes 4-6 weeks and costs ~30% of the total as they add duty/taxes to the price and take care of that for you.

Kinda. I always wait for a 20% off coupon figuring if I am charged duty/taxes at Point Roberts (which so far I haven't, knock on wood) the discount covers the extra fees.

I did the math once for a large order. It would have been just over $600 CND, with shipping after a 20% discount my EastBay total was just shy of $300. Even with taxes and duty I would have saved ~$250 (~35%) and since Point Roberts often doesn't charge it, I saved > 50%.

Yes the discount can be used towards dumbells.

Yea, for sure online shopping is cheaper. Buying from US is cheaper overall due to the fact that us retaillers have larger buying power due to larger population. US also has less import taxes for stuff coming from over seas. US also doesn't have a law stating that all packaging must be bilingual, which drives up the cost as well.

As for online retailers, the smaller cost of overhead allows them to sell the goods for much cheaper. However, a lot of people still prefers instant gratification, and wants an item immediately, and not wait for shipment. And not everyone have the luxury of time to drive to point roberts to pick up the shipment.

Lastly, I just took a look at the eastbay prices....95% of the stuff is more expensive than my employee pricing....a few might be the same as my employee pricing. Haven't seen anything that's significantly lower, so I don't know where you got that info from.

Taking a quick comparison for a few items. With the Friends and Family sale, the pricing for eastbay vs sportchek is pretty close.

Ie
Asics Kayano 17
Eastbay: $139.99 (not including shippin, duty etc)
Sportchek:$199.99 -25% = $149.99

Nike Lunarglide +3
Eastbay: $99.99
Sportchek:$139.99-25%=$104.99

Underarmour Micro G Funk
Eastbay: $89.99
Sportchek: $109.99-25%=$82.49

Merrel Trailglove
Eastbay: $109.99
Sportchek: $139.98 -25%=$104.99

I just picked a few shoes from different catagories that usually don't go on sale.

So I'll admit Eastbay has good pricing, but a the friends/family deal at sportchek is quite competitive.

Thanks for doing that! If you factor in a 20% off coupon code, free shipping, and usually no tax/duty its significantly cheaper :D yet for obviously more hassle.

Sweet, I wanted a pair of the True Gloves and the BOGO sale doesn't allow these as the second pair.

I assume I cannot combine BOGO and F&F.

skiiipi 08-23-2011 10:39 AM

Yea unfortunately bogo will not be running when its F&F.
