Road trip to Portland - scenic route Hey guys, A couple friends and I are planning a road trip to Portland for a few days. Just was wondering if anyone had any scenic route suggestions to get down there. Just not feeling driving down the I5 all the way. We don't really care about getting there in record time, we kind of want to stop off at nice places to get some sweet photos. |
No brainer... take Hwy101 down the coast. Basically take I5 south just before you get to Longview, WA you head West along the North side of the river that separates Oregon and Washington. When you get right to the coast, you'll cross the river over the amazing bridge that will get you to Astoria, Oregon which is a gorgeous little town to start your coast drive. Mark |
you guys can go atv on the sand dunes too - it's near the cost i hear.. |
Ok this is what I did in June in 2 days, I suggest more time because we were very rushed and barely had any sleep. Take i5 all the way to hwy 433, merges into hwy U.S. 30W which then becomes 101, drive all the way down to Cannon Beach and hang out there for a few hours, make sure to check out the Haystack Rock. Then take Hwy 26 to Portland (if you like donuts check out Voodoo Doughnut, it's pretty cool and open 24/7, we went there at like 2am lol), after that (next day or whenever) take i5 to hwy 569 and then 126 to Florence to check out the Sand Dunes and Sea Lion Cave. Here's my route on google map. S Kelso Dr to OR-126 W/Rte F - Google Maps Picture I took at Cannon Beach. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._6522351_n.jpg |

I was asking for the scenic route. We have our activities planned already ;) It involves bars and a lot of tequila. |
Cannon Beach is a must see if you're in Portland. Oh, and enjoy the no sales tax on alcohol! |

You won't see anything but it's an awesome road to drive and 10 times better when there is no traffic... |
