Moving away for a year, any idea how to keep my number ?

I'm going aboard for work for a year or more..

I would like to keep my number when I get back, but don't want to pay the $50 a month since I won't be using the phone.

Any ideas?

Get a prepaid sim card. Put 20$ on it. Port your number to that sim by callling customer service.

I know 7-11 prepaid charges about $1 a month. That might have changed though, it's been awhile since I checked.

I'm on the same boat. If you're on Fido, switch to prepaid, and put $10 in. This $10 will last you 6 months (if you don't refill within 6 months, your SIM/number will be deactivated).
