Completed in 1994, it's less than half the length of this proposed tunnel. Think of all the engineering challenges they faced and problems they still face today in the channel tunnel, now imagine building something more than twice the size under the Bering strait decades prior to that. I'm not saying it couldn't be done back then, but you have to be realistic.

Technology in the early to mid 90's were just starting to evolve into what we have today.
