You do know that Samsung makes the galaxy nexus right? They are also officially releasing ICS for the sgs2. No need for a port since it'll come directly from them.

The Nexus One...Nexus S...and now Galaxy Nexus will always get the newest software first.
It won't be until next year that a port for the SGS2 comes out. You must understand that the SGSII isn't just an ordinary Android phone made by Samsung. The implementation of Touch Wiz and other bloatware hinders the SGSII likelihood of receiving timely updates. At this point, UK and U.S. SGSII's are guaranteed to receive an official update. Anyone else will be required to have rooted, ported ROM.
After experiencing CM7 on the SGS2, my doubts are warranted for the timely arrival or even the likelihood of Ice Cream Sandwich and the Canadian SGS2. CM7 took almost half a year to develop for this phone and even when they finally finished it, it was far from anything we're used to on other phones; a stripped down version of what was one the most successful Android roms available. Of course, if the port arrives soon, that's great news and I'll stand corrected but at this point, it doesn't look like it will be happening anytime soon.
In my case, selling my SGS2 was a smart decision. Prices have fallen down significantly in the last month and there has been an abundance of them on the used market (RevScene and Craigslist.) I managed to get $500 for my phone which is essentially how much I paid for it back in August. If need be, and I get the urge to buy it again, I'm sure I can find one on here in the low $400's.

It's not a rom port if it comes from the same phone but different country. And everyone here is already rooted. You can't compare CM7 to an official ROM distribution. CM7 is just a collection of end users online working on it. Yes the Nexus series will always get the official Google revisions. I'm just disagreeing with you that ICS is being ported or will take forever or will be unstable. The SGS2 is their flagship phone so I'm not worried. They just need to take the AOSP source and add touchwiz.

To clarify, I'm talking about the port right now because although there is an expected release for SGS2 Official Update, no word on when it will be or how long it will take to have it released. We can speculate how soon or long it will take but my point is, that an official release will probably be the only way to get a stable/working release of ICS on SGS2.
ICS Ports have been successful on other phones; Dartchilli has been using one on his Nexus S for quite some time now and it seems to be working fine. SGS2 has yet to deliver a port and probably won't release a stable one until official release comes out at which point a port would be useless.
Let's just say, anyone who isn't rooted won't be seeing ICS till next year.

It's working great but it's not perfect yet. Let's move the SGS2 specific talk back to the correct thread as this is meant for the Galaxy Nexus only. I'll link the SGS2 ICS rom in the other thread.

| the ICS port on NexusOne/Nexus S was based on SDK. The only reason it worked is becuz it had to borrow so much from the gingerbread framework in order for it to boot. I gave up on that ICS SDK port at beta6.
the AOSP source is based on 4.0.1 ICS.

Bell/Virigin release date: December 8th
pre-order is up....
No-term: $649.95
1-year: $624.95
2-year: $599.95
3-year: $159.95

..................... Samsung Galaxy Nexus.................................................. ................................. Apple iPhone 4S.................................................. ...........
Processor: Dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A9 CPU, TI OMAP 4460 chipset vs 1 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU, Apple A5 chipset...
Screen: 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.65 inches (~316 ppi pixel density) vs 640 x 960 pixels, 3.5 inches (~330 ppi pixel density).
Memory: 16/32GB storage, 1 GB RAM vs 16/32/64 GB storage, 512 MB RAM
Camera: 5 MP, 2592x1936 pixels, autofocus, LED flash vs 8 MP, 3264x2448 pixels, autofocus, LED flash, check quality (iPhone wins)
Network: LTE and 5 bands for 3G vs no LTE and 4 Bands for 3G.
Which of these above mentioned specs really matter, well that's up to the user. The camera is a disappointment but to say that this phone has "mediocre specs" is unwarranted. Again, unless I'm looking at the wrong specs; I dunno.
I Haven't used the phone yet obviously but from the benchmark tests, Galaxy Nexus had outperformed iPhone 4S. I think the only thing that the iPhone has held is it's superior graphics.

I should rephrase
we all know apple pricing are inflated...but you get good fit & finish and great customer care
$650 is the pricing for samsung's flagship phones...which is the Galaxy S II and not the Galaxy Nexus as it stands.
the twitter contest clearly noted this phone's approximate value is $500USD..which is in line with the cost of previous nexus phones when the launched. Aside from a kick-ass screen, the hardware specs are nothing to brag about (dated GPU, poor image results from low lighting, no microSD slot)
Like i said previously, i kind of saw this price coming when they decided to add the Galaxy name onto a pure google phone.
I almost feel Bell is gouging people that arent will to sign contracts with them another $100 for 1 month exclusivity of the ICS

I usually don't spend MSRP on phones any more because the market is saturated with them. I used to be able to justify spending top dollar on phones when I knew I there weren't going to be many other people who owned the same Nokia as me lol . This is before the days that Rogers started selling N95 8GBs and Samsung D800's.
Now of course, when I'm buying a phone that EVERYONE else is going to have, I don't see why I would spend so much money for something that is no not "unique?"
If release date is beginning of December, it won't be till end of December or beginning of January till the phone becomes affordable on the second-hand market. I'd be willing to pay $550 for this phone at most. Anything else, would be simply a poor investment.

HAHAHA | That's because these manufacturers; Samsung, HTC, etc... are releasing phones with hardware that incorporates tomorrow's technology rather than today's. Nexus One, Nexus S, SGS2 all came equipped with internal hardware that was ahead of the current standard. Those phones that were at par with the standard at that time won't in my mind, last as long.
Your Nexus S still has hardware, even though it's been over a year since its release, that competes if not surpasses a lot of phones that have recently been released in the market this year.

CM7 is NOT a stripped down version of AOSP Roms. It is merely an improvement with additions such as performance tweaks.
As far as I know, the SGS2 CM7 wasnt as good. There are infact different teams that code Cyanogen.
CM9 is expected to have night builds soon on the GalaxyNexus.
ICS will land on other devices when the manufacture launcher is finalized. As for as we know, there has been no new TouchWiz or senses announcement. Expect that to be included with ICS for SGS2
but why the fuss... I've used ICS. i'll be very honest, your not missing much more than what are in custom roms

You guys also gotta remember that it's not only about hardware anymore but software as well.
Back in the days people were only looking at specs of a phone + design.
I remember buying the N95 in HK after hearing what a beast of a phone it was...I got bored of it fast and regretting blowing so much money. There wasn't anything special about it and much to do on it.
It wasn't until the iPhone came out that changed things.
Hardware is important and all of course but my #1 deciding factor for buying a phone now is what the software brings.
and right now, ICS is looking mighty fine.

any questions? | Does the native ICS dialer finally have smart dial? or do I still need to rely on a third party dialer for that?
Any zoom capabilities in the native gmail app?
How about copy/paste in the native apps other than a text entry box? (i.e. copy text from a google talk conversation sent 2 hours ago)
