Question to anyone running Kangs right now. (hell, anyone running anything)
Do you have any problems with the battery life. No matter what, I've noticed that my screen accounts for ~70% of my battery consumption, even when i'm barely doing anything at all... is this some sort of bug or is it normal?

iphones charge super quick even via usb | I'm coming from the nexus s.
Currently in a coin flip as to which i want to use because the gnex is a nice phone and all, but the battery life sucks absolute crap.
nexus s runs for a lot longer than my gnex, and charges much faster than the gnex

You have to remember that the battery % breakdowns are all relative to the other processes running on the phone. If you're doing nothing except leaving your screen on for an hour, of course the screen will account for the majority of your battery consumption. Think of it as a pie graph that adds up to 100% and everything listed there contributes to make up 100%. Posted via RS Mobile |

Posted via RS Mobile | don't get me wrong. i completely understand that its a large screen and all. but my battery is literally dropping like crazy, and all i do with the phone atm is mild texting, and words/hanging with friends once in a while. the phone would be idle, with screen off and such, and i'd check again 10 mins later and 2% would be eaten up already. my screen is set to the lowest possible setting

Yeah that's just how it is. The nexus battery is not so great. At least that's what I've found coming from even the galaxy s2. Check to see if your phone is entering deep sleep at all when the screen is off by using the app cpuspy.
If it's not, then use betterbatterystats to see what is keeping your phone awake when the screen is off. Posted via RS Mobile |

Posted via RS Mobile | well tried cpuspy, and based on today so far.. its spend 2.5hrs in deep sleep during the 3.5hrs the phones been running on battery and im down to 82% already. very minimal texting today with screen brightness low at all times. turned to about 25% for a few mins cuz it was bright outside..
im thinking franco.kernel had something to do with it before because i didn't install it this time (reflashed kang once again incase something went wrong before) Quote:

Thinking of getting this phone, how long do you reckon the battery would last with mild texting, occasional web browsing, along with a couple of apps?

^Total noob to android, browsed through last 4 pages reading about all these different apps. Just looking a general answer, without having to look up all the different functions and reviews of aforementioned apps.

It looks like the most users on XDA average between 14-18hrs off the charger. Heavier users are usually between 8-12hrs off the charger.
I'm personally usually at the 16hr+ mark, which easily gets through my day before i plug it in when i go to bed.
I think people need to start understanding that the days of Nokia/SE 2 week battery life is over, and its time to accept the smartphone generation where you have to plug your phone in at least once a day.
If people want a fully featured smart phone with top of the line hardware, then get used to a mid-day top up if you're a heavy user, and then plugging it in again when you go to bed.
The Galaxy Nexus is not considered to have terrible battery life by today's competition - It's about the same as everything else out there, which IMO is a pretty good achievement considering the size of this screen.

For those of you that use voice search you may receive a "Server Problem" error when you try to use it. To fix that you just have to switch the language from English (US) to something else like English (UK) or for Chinese speakers choose Mandarin or Cantonese as it will still understand English on top of Chinese.

What were you doing when the phone bricked?
What happens when you hold down vol +/-/power? Does it not enter fastbootmode at all?
What rom were you running?
Does your phone charge at all when plugging usb cable in?

1) I left the phone in my center console, just driving. Then I checked it, and it was restarting and just kept going. Did a battery pull and everything, cant get past google logo.
2) It goes to the odin mode or sth, and I scroll to the recovery one, and it doesnt let me choose it to recover.
3) Phone was fully stock, only official udpates. I didnt root or rom or kernel anything on the phone.
4) Yes i see the battery icon when I plug usb in

Well the good news is that you can probably easily recover it.
The bad news is that you'll probably void your warranty by doing it (although you can reverse it all to make the phone look stock again if you're careful).
You'll probably need to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, and then try a factory reset.
Tutorial here: [GNex TOOLKIT V5.3] Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, CWM, Flash, Mods + MUCH MORE [GSM] - xda-developers
If that doesn't work then you can always flash the stock google image: Factory Images for Nexus Devices - Google Support for Nexus Phones and Flagship Devices - Google Code
Although this will make you lose your stock rom from your carrier (Canadian Galaxy Nexus does not use the stock google version of the rom)
Regardless, it looks like you'll lose everything on your phone unless you can somehow revive it the way it is..
Failing that, don't do any of the above and just send it in for warranty and wait a month for them to fix it.

not everyone has access or the opportunity to charge their phone mid day all the time.
if i can go a full day easily, then im ok. and my normal usage is not watching videos or playing music, and an average amount of everything else. but the odd time i do listen to music or watch a few youtube clips, the phone should have enough reserve to get through those days too.
i think thats a pretty reasonable expectation.

I've looked through the last 10 pages of this thread and wasn't able to find the answer.
I'm looking to purchase Titanium Backup and it says that your phone needs to be rooted. I've helped my friend unlock the bootloader (which will erase all the data) and root theirs, so the 2 seem to go hand in hand, however the purpose is to back up my phone Titanium Backup before wiping everything off. (I honestly don't know what the difference between the 2 is)
So my question is, can I root my phone to use Titanium Backup without unlocking the bootloader (which I will do after backing up everything) wiping all the data? If so, would you be kind enough to link me?
