Pretty much automatic. I do clear cache and dalvik cache after I flash a kernel though.
I installed mine a few days ago, would clearing the cache and dalvik now do anything?

Many reasons. The major one being that I have wrist/hand problems and the size and thinness of the phone doesn't seem to help right now.
Phone related reasons:
- Coming from an iphone 4 I can't type with one hand on this thing.
- I can't stand the lack of a good notification system.
- Battery life is pretty bad compared to the iphone 4.
I'm stuck at a crossroads. Each phone has it's good and it's bad. If I could combine the phone then I'd finally be satisfied!
But if it wasn't for my wrist problems I would probably keep the phone longer and give it longer go at it.
Bad thing is I sold my iPhone 4 already so if I sell this I'd be stuck with my friends old 3G for the time being lol. gross.

If thinness is an issue; pick up a nice case. I got an otterbox with mine (had not previously planned on getting a case) and feel really weird with my phone without it now.
I kind of feel you on the no one-handed typing thing. But what's all this about bad notifications?

Ya I was just at a rogers store trying on a case. hard to judge unless I actually buy one and try it out normally. Dunno if it will help with my wrist problems or not either. (was thinking of getting a case-mate since it has grip).
I know it's up to preference and opinion but I have no idea how you guys deal with the notification system on this.
The iphone has all the notifications on the lockscreen and pops up the most recent one in center stage and turns on the screen. It then joins the lists as soon as it goes dark again. All you have to do is look over at your phone to see the message. If it's important or it's too long to fit in the preview, you then grab ur phone and check it. If it's not important, you can ignore it. I found this very handy when my hands are in use or ur trying to sleep.
I also hate how the tray on Android groups the notifications up and says "2 new messages". I like to pull down and quickly check my msgs without going into the apps.
Now I know the notification system got better in jellybean in terms of adding more function to the tray. It's still early but if it gives devs the ability to add quick reply to it, then dammmmmmmmmmmmmn nigga, it might be a good trade off.
But currently I really don't like it. *puts flame suit on*
I feel like the Xperia S would be the perfect phone for me right now. It's only 4.3"...not too big not too small. IT has iOS like lockscreen notifications...nice transition to Android. And has the sharpest screen out there at 342pixel density. Only problem is I don't think it's worth $500 and it lacks software support. My friend is still waiting on ICS to roll out on his and I doubt it'll get Jellybean. Getting an Apple or Google phone usually means 2-3 updates guaranteed?

If it is a thinness and size issue, you might want to pick up a flygrip instead. I'm using one on my Note right now and it's been pretty good. I can reach all corners of the screen and it makes one handed usage much easier.

You can also try different sms apps as well. ChompSMS allows you to have intrusive iOS style notification pop ups if that's what you prefer.
If you want notifications to appear on your lockscreen there are lockscreen replacement apps as well that can do the trick.
As far as grouping notifications, I hate that too, but I don't find it to be a dealbreaker. I also expect some third party program (or google itself) to allow expandable SMS notifications in the tray at some point.
Xperia S is meh. It ships with Gingerbread. Yikes. And people on XDA don't really like sony phones as much for whatever reason, so support is much worse than a Nexus phone. The size is also negligible (imho) vs the nexus. I came from the 4.3" sgs2 before and it's marginally smaller. I also don't think the Xperia S will allow you to type with one hand either. Swype?

No I don't prefer the pop-up notifications. That is old-school iOS style. iOS5 and up has a banner pop now.
I've searched for lockscreen notifications like crazy and all I found were ones that can tell you how MANY notifications you have but not the actual notifications. Unless you know of one?
From the jellybean preview, foursquare lets u comment right form the tray...can't see why that can't extend to messaging apps right? hopefully after release.
Ya that's why I don't want the Xperia and why I liked the iPhone and why I chose to get a google phone rather than the other Android phones. Software is the biggest thing to me and I want phones that work closest with the OS developers.
Swiping through home screens on the Xperia is a bit choppy. Not smooth like jellybean on the Nexus. An older, slower phone performing better.

It's most likely that all apps will get the full on jellybean experience; remember that this is the first release of jellybean to the "public", and that manufacturers and devs haven't had a chance to get in on it yet.
Hell, not even all the GApps are full on JB compliant.
Give it a couple months before it all comes together.
I feel you on the update thing; that's why I got a Nexus TBH. The Nexus and the iPhone are much better direct comparisons than "iOS" and "Android"; as I've said before, my friend running the Nexus S is expected to get JB in July or so...despite the fact that other Samsung Galaxy S phones won't even get ICS. Amusingly enough, most of the reason for that is because of the stuff that manufacturers add on, taking up valuable memory and the like.

Exactly. I don't know about you but I can't stand the fact knowing there's a new version of an OS out that I can't have. Or have to wait 6-8 months.
I get more excited about software features than hardware features. It seems like the only new hardware features these days are upgrades or stuff that is too early to be considered anything but gimmicky. Has anyone made use of NFC yet?

I actually have both phones the Nexus and the iPhone 4S. I actually hate the lockscreen notifications and prefer to have them in the dropdown instead. The only thing I like about the 4S is the camera.
