No Conspiracy theory they're recording everything you s say BS either lol Posted via RS Mobile | I'm pretty sure it needs to connect to Google for voice recognition. I'm petty sure full voice recognition software is larger than the 20-odd megabyte app we download.
Same reason Siri needs an Internet connection on iDevices, even just to record something.

^Correct. The speech to text is handled on the Google servers to provide the best and fastest recognition. Having it on the phone limits its usefulness.

Weird. I don't need to connect to Google to send a voice text. Wasn't that one of the advantages of jellybean Google now??
Did you download the offline speech recognition?

G-spec, honestly, you need to start worrying less about the back-end stuff that goes on in your phone. What you're doing is essentially the equivalent of going through all of the processes in windows and saying "Hmm, that says microsoft but not windows, so I'm going to stop that process because I want to make my computer faster when I browse or game".
Just because it's not specifically labelled with 'android' or has a detailed description of what it does doesn't mean it's not essential for your phone.
Things I have found useful for keeping my battery life good:
>Find a rom and a kernel that you like. I'm running Paranoid Android with the Franco kernel Milestone 6. When left completely at idle, I end up losing about 1% per hour (I left it on overnight from 100% and after 9 hours of sleep I was down to 90%).
>If you don't want to fuck with ROMs and Kernels, don't. Stock should give you decent battery life (relatively speaking)
>Task killers will (generally speaking) use more battery life than they save.
>If you're experiencing battery drain when you're not using your phone, then it's going to be an app that's stopping your phone from going into deep sleep mode.
>Minimize the number of apps you have on your phone when possible. Yes, it's a smartphone and it's made to have apps. But the more you have, the more THEY will drain the batteries.
>Be conscious of the brightness of your screen. Either turn it to automatic, or put it as low as possible given the lighting conditions.
>Be conscious of how long your screen is on. I have mine set to a 15sec delay; I've found this keeps consumption relatively low, and with my reading speed it's just about perfect for how often I have to scroll when reading news online or what have you.
I'm sure there's others, but these are the ones I always keep in mind.

Installed the franco kernel, and it's pretty good so far. I like the governor they include, and I OC'd it a touch. I also liked that I could tweak the colours a bit, I have it looking much nicer now.
Now I need to find a brightness slider that fits in the notification window.. I don't like to use auto brightness, so I'd like a quick method of adjusting it when I need to.

Franco kernel is awesome.
Trickster MOD is also a great app to control the kernel (and many other kernels) if you don't want to pay for each developer's individual kernel control app.
Most custom roms have the brightness slider in the notification window. ParanoidAndroid and AOKP have it for sure. Not sure what app can do it with stock rom though.

When I am browsing through my music and bump into a song with a long title, the phone doesnt really pan through it to allow me to read the full name and there seems to be no way to get it to do so unless i turn it sideways and let it rotate. is it just me?

I read about how it wasn't so I'm holding back until it stops fc to flash everything.

Alarms work fine. You just need to delete/rename your previous alarm app or uninstall it or else the alarm will FC when you try to set it up.
Stopwatch works too.
Just the timer doesn't work when I set it to countdown and then try to move away from the app. FC everytime.

Anyone try Revolution HD? It was the best ROM for Desire HD by far, so I wonder how the GNex version is... Although I am pretty happy with stock + franco
