I bet there is more to the story than what they are saying. A few years ago when I had my Skyline I was at a meet and we were cruising back to Coquitlam from Mission on the #1. No excessive speeding, more like cruising in a convoy at like 100-110. Sure over the limit but not racing... Anyways, long story short a road block was set up in Coquitlam and everyone was all accused of racing. Supposedly they had a "tip" come in that we were racing (and I reaffirm again, there was no racing going on). After a bunch of sweet talking and basically telling them they had no proof and to go f off. Eventually they did and we went on our merry way. Same type of thing could have been happening here? Or they could have been racing... I just have such a hard time believing the media anymore or cops. At the end of they day... sucks for them!... lolz
Based on this quote, my comment above stands in whether anything happened other than hearsay...

RCMP Supt. Norm Gaumont: "I know there's a lot of disappointment, wondering why we only charged them with an offence of $196. They fact of the matter is, we have to look at all the evidence we have and what we're able to prove."

these guys probably pay more taxes from sales tax than you all combined in income tax
all these fucks do in canada is spend money, nice way to treat the ppl that keeps the economy growing
either way, the cars are just pocket change to them and most of them will be back to china in a year or two.
I agree with Rogue. Licenses should be also based on displacement.
L & N Drivers ---- allowed to drive <2.0 Litres 4 Cylinders
<5 Years driving ---- up to 3.0 Litre 4 Cylinder
6-8 Years driving ---- limited up to 6 cyclinder
8+ Years driving ---- unlimited
Or some something like that...
I would love to see an Audi R8 with a VW 1.8T or a Ferrari with a Fiat 500 engine.
And traffic fines should be based on price of your car... If your driving around in a $100,000+ Car then you should pay more for your fine. eg. $15,000
If you are caught speeding in your Yugo(if you could do the speed limit) your fine would be considerable less.
The fine is to deter you from doing it again. Correct?
Sorry for the RANT... Also the L and N should be larger.
Hell I have 2 Driving teenagers(1 L and 1N) They are allowed to drive sub 2.0l cars in the garage. No way are they driving the V8s. I guess I care about them and the drivers around them. That being said maybe the 13 drivers parents don't give a shit on what their children are doing.
T.
So you have to wait 8 years to become a truck driver? and it would be o.k. for a person with an N to drive Lotus elise or a Turboed Civic but a Ford pickup would be not OK. How does that make sense?
you deserve 100 'S

I don't believe data logging works that way...A data logger has the ability to record a certain amount of information. For us to expect that a car's computer has the hardware to allow it to record a unlimited amount of data such as car's speed at any given time, would be far-fetched.
I know for sure that a data logger will indefinitely record when something triggers it to do so. ie: a fault code, a rapid change in wheel speed (whether it's up or down), and of course in the case of a collision.
I'm not saying that the data logger doesn't record speeds but what I am saying is that since there was no collision involved here, and we don't know exactly how much time has passed since they were allegedly going 200+Km/hr to the point where they stopped, a data-logger could not/will not be used. It's not possible for you to search the data-logger to see what speed the car was going and Y time unless something instigated the car's computer to save it.
Also, there are privacy issues when it comes to using the data logger in court and for the judge to rule that the data logger evidence is admissible in court, would require some extreme, perhaps tragic event to have occurred. Fortunately that did not happen here and for a judge to allow data logging evidence based on citizen, eye-witness testimony saying that these guys were speeding in excess of 200km/hr would simply not be sufficient in court. At the end of the day, the data-logger and the data stored in there is under the sole ownership of the owner of the vehicle.
Problem with this, is I recognize one of those cars from a track day I was at in August. Unless it can differentiate the time and dosen't just say "max speed ever seen" it's useless.

No they won't be going back the whole reason their parents sent them here is so that if the dad gets arrested in China for corruption the kid will at least be safe (since the whole family gets arrested/jailed in china)

What the hell is your point? Everything you said is so stupid. Because you have money, you should be treated like royalty even if you've put people's lives in danger?

That's because he lives in Asia and he thinks that attitude applies here in Canada as well
He didn't learn (because he's an idiot) is that that attitude reaches boiling points and you get revolutions
What I believe should be done with this is to force everyone of these guys to attend 8hr a day classes that preach responsible driving for about a month/until you pass (like they do in the USA)
and to scale fines based on wealth like they do in some parts of Europe
Im fine with seizing vehicles as long as the circumstances of the seizure can be proven

That isn't at all what he's saying...If you read the comments in this thread, you would realize his response was to those people who were saying that these guys should pay MORE fines than the AVERAGE person driving the AVERAGE car for committing the SAME crime...
No where did he say that these people deserve special treatment or exemptions to the law.
Your response my friend, is stupid as you COMPLETELY missed his point. When people suggest that these guys HAVE MORE thus should PAY MORE, he simply stated that they already are...Which in THAT SENSE, he is absolutely right...They already do pay more in car luxury taxes and insurance...So now they should pay MORE for fines when the rest of the public pays a different, lesser fine for doing the same wrong thing??
That doesn't make any sense. The law is equal to all those under it and these guys should receive the same punishment anyone else would receive in the same situation.
if you guys read further in article
In January, a Swiss court slapped a $290,000 speeding ticket on a millionaire Ferrari driver who drove 60 mph (nearly twice the 30 mph limit) through a small village.
his response was to those people who were saying that these guys should pay MORE fines than the AVERAGE person driving the AVERAGE car for committing the SAME crime...

Depends how the law defines "equal". Many countries levy fines based on ability to pay. Why? Cause the fine should hurt "equally", not really hurt poor people and only be pennies to a rich person.
It makes perfect sense. A small fine to a wealthy person isn't much of a punishment, so what has the law achieved?
