..Alleged B.C. street race with $2M in luxury cars

...A high-end vehicle is impounded after an alleged street race in Metro Vancouver on …
....B.C. Mounties say 13 high-end luxury cars were impounded and 13 people fined after an alleged street race in Metro Vancouver on Wednesday afternoon — and police are looking at permanently seizing the vehicles.
At about 3:30 p.m. local time, police received several complaints of high-end cars speeding southbound along Highway 99 in the area of the George Massey tunnel.
Witnesses reported the cars were travelling at speeds up to 200 km/h, and on several occasions two cars would travel side by side and slow down to allow vehicles in front of them to take off in a race.
The cars exited the highway into Surrey, where six of the 13 vehicles were stopped by Surrey RCMP. The other seven cars were located and stopped by White Rock RCMP a short distance away.
Thirteen drivers were pulled over and their cars — worth a total of more than $2 million — were impounded.
"The vehicles that we're dealing with here were Lamborghinis, high-end Mercedes, Maseratis, Aston Martins, high-end Nissan sports cars," said RCMP Insp. Bryon Massie.
"The majority of them had personalized plates as well and were souped-up, so they're fairly distinguished and the witnesses had no problem in providing us with the descriptors that were tracked back to the vehicles."
The drivers have each been fined $196 and will have to pay for the cost of impounding and storing their vehicles for seven days.
However, RCMP Supt. Norm Gaumont said police are looking at tougher measures.
"So we've asked our team to be looking at the possibility of criminal charges and ... if we have enough evidence to lay a charge of dangerous driving. We're also going to be looking at seizing the vehicles for good," Gaumont said.
The names of the drivers have not been released, and Massie said it's not clear where they are from.
"The drivers of the vehicles are all in around the age of 20 years old. They're all new drivers. The majority of them do not have their full driver's licence status — they're still in the 'N' new category," Massie said, referring to B.C.'s graduated licensing program, which puts restrictions on new drivers and requires them to put an 'L' or 'N' decal on their car to alert other drivers of their novice status.
The registered owner of the Lamborghini, Massie said, is only 18 years old.
He said it appears the group was getting together to celebrate one of their colleagues leaving the area.
Massie said the incident highlights an important message to drivers: "Speed is fairly unforgiving. Whenever you're involved in a motor vehicle accident where there's any speed at all, it's unforgiving ... Slow down, be responsible and understand that speed limits are there for a reason."
Kids are amateur, come play with us on highway 93 in the Rockey Mountains
aka- away from the public, pedestrians, and police
(A track is better, but we all know how lame our tracks are, and how few and far between they are)
I'm angry at the incident, the way it's being reported, and the consequences.

Not 100% sure but I would assume that Air One was probably following them, and if so they'd have video proof, perhaps with a possible way of deducing speed

Good they got caught, getting fined and all that bullshit jazz.
But what the fuck are the pigs thinking about a new method just to fuck them over?
If there was no hard evidence, base on some joe blow on the street, OMFG the sound of a v10 roars they must be doing 4000000km an hour, give me a fucking break.
Did they crash? no, did they kill anyone? no
they might if they crash, but the fact is they didnt.
The fuck you wonna lay a criminal charges on them for? seizing their property, what a fucking joke.
NExt thing u know, pigs will be seizing ur gf's tits for evidence.
and just a FYI
which exotic dont speed?
google on youtube
there will be a million of them all doing over the speed limit.
What really bugs me about this story is the way the police handled the situation. They basically arrested and impounded these exotic cars from the public phoning in without any hard evidence from a speed trap or actually a police officer seeing the actual event.
What happens if I happen to drive an exotic car and I happen to be driving through the Massey Tunnel at the same time. I'm pretty sure I would of been arrested and my car impounded.
What will happen if I see some douche bag and I didn't like the way he drove and I call 911 to report that he's driving like an idiot with speeds up to 200km/hr. Is the police going to hunt him down and arrest and impound his car?
most of the people calling the cops are jelly to begin with.

So from the article above they each got $196 speeding ticket and 7 day impound...
Last time I checked excessive speeding ticket was $3xx and they were "claiming" to go as fast 200 km/hr. Interested to see the results of the 'evidence' they can prove.
However, RCMP Supt. Norm Gaumont said police are looking at tougher measures.

Fuck that french pig.
I want to know who allowed these laws to become so well written that mere speeding justifies taking someone's property? Taking one's personal assets is akin to what autocracies in Africa do. It's what Gaddafi and Hitler did. Taking the assets for offenses against the vehicle code is ludicrous. While I don't condone what these goofs did, I hope their lawyers tear the province a new one, and create a precedent for all of us to fall back on. If not, the crown will continue to take under the guise of "public safety".

relax, it's most likely just a PR statement. Unless they have hard evidence then I suspect that (sadly) nothing more will happen except the fine and the 7 day wait at mom and dads house

The law is probably the last thing these kids would be worried about, their parents can hire an army of lawyers to get off free.
They are probably more worried about their parents. I am pretty sure no matter how rich of an Asian you are, your parents always have a beating stick tucked away in the closet.
its mostly the stupid elderly down here in white rock that call the cops on everyone. Fucking annoying hicks. During near rush hour, I've always driven along hwy 99 back to white rock and I can tell you, everyone drives so fucking slow that its not possible to get near 200kms, most is 120km. Hate rats that try to make someone else day go bad. Those rich kids just gonna buy another expensive car.
This is an interesting case to follow; since everything that happens now will be set as a precedence.
I will be interested to see "the group" dispute the ticket and ask for full disclosure to see what evidence do they have on them.
This will be the key to the case and also we will know who is right or wrong.
I would be interested in going to court and watching this case as well!
Since ALL of the "N" drivers will get an auto 3 months suspension (minimum depending on driving record) if the ticket sticks due to 6 points driving without due care + 596 dollar fine.
