Grade 6 ... let's give the kid a bit of a break. Tell me you're Chinese without telling me you're Chinese.
I dunno what I understood at 11 yo. Honestly, you don't really develop critical thinking skills till what, grade 10, 11, 12? I think it's an adolescent development, brain thing that you don't develop critical thinking till much later. Hell, some people on here still think like adolescents.

i can't even get my grade 6 nephew to sit down at a desk doing homework. They are there to just do homework but no critical thinking or trying to understand. Just cause you do homework doesn't mean you understand the logic and theory behind things.
Oh well.... that's the Gens. Thank you for them, making me a valuable employee.
I think it's on us.
I used to coach a FIRST Lego Robotics team out in the SF Bay Area, in a middle schoolers' league. I had 6th graders whose parents wanted opportunities for the kids to learn stuff and think for themselves.
Through the season, I taught the kids the basics of sensors and actuators, and some controls theory (feedback control systems). But the kids had to spend their own time together, to figure out how to build a robot together to tackle all the missions, from scratch. No instructions, just build free-form. I mentored and advised them on general engineering principles, but definitely wouldn't help them on the design work.
Definitely out of the team of 6, you could immediately see at the start of the season who had a knack for for "just figure it out" vs "...where are the instructions??" vs "i'll be on my phone if you need me". But the fact that they were building to compete at a tournament and were depending on each other for the win, really motivated them to figure shit out together.
Not my team, but at a roughly equivalent level of competitiveness:
Anyway my point is that if you can give them the opportunity and give them a reason to want to, then they will learn to problem solve. But I don't think it's fair we expect them to just do it all on their own, when their environment doesn't otherwise demand it. They need a reason.

My paper mail still seems to be all screwed up, in an all over the place kind of way. Some stuff -- usually the unimportant BS or junk mail -- arrive on time.
The CoV empty home tax declaration reminder notice, which was supposed to be due in early Feb, arrived a mere few days before the due date. It was dated for mid Jan, so it took almost 2 weeks to get to my place? I don't think I ever received the initial CoV declaration.
A credit card statement arrived some time after the payment due date.
So it has been working wonderfully well...

With rise in cost of shit left and right. Been thinking of picking up weekend job/work, like on a Saturday. Trying to think of work that doesn't use a lot of brain cuz I already deal with enough day at my day job. What's even out there now that is easy to get work? Uber eats or some of delivery work? Some say what you net sucks these days, but I guess it's not bad if someone like me to earn some food money rather than sit my ass at home on a Saturday doing lick all.
I was actually just talking about this over dinner with someone who used to clear 100K doing food delivery apps. He says it's no longer the money maker it used to be. Tip system now comes after the sale (Uber eats?) and is now forgotten/conveniently skipped by customers. Too many people fighting for delivery jobs in the market so wracking up a bunch is harder. Overall, he says it's just not worth it anymore.
Don't quote me on any of that as I've never used a food delivery once lol. I hate that shit. I'd rather support the restaurant and pick it up myself. I really wish human laziness wasn't so easy to exploit.
Cashier at local LD, Canadian Tire, Shoppers, Safeway? Should be pretty stress free and doesn't require a lot of brain cells. Controlled environment. Just don't get assigned to LD in DTES.

It's because the laws were changed and the delivery services now have to pay a wage to the delivery drivers. They used to skirt around it by calling them businesses.
Instead of using up weekends making more money, how about try to spend that much less money
100% true my man. It's not how much you make, but how much you save.
Surely I've responded to ideas before - some obvious.
Reoccurring bills
1) Cable - i cut that shit right out & my parents. Bought a TV box for $200 and watch all the movies and new and sport for free for life. That was 90 bucks a month.
2) Phone and Fax - Told my parents to cut, they have emotional ties - so i got them italk bb and now their phone bill is $6 bucks a month. Saved $50 a month
3) This is a tough one - cell phone plan.
Adults - everyone went over to public mobile or Freedom. From $100 down to $50. STFU about reception or 100GB, you never use that much (*insert mom and dad).
Kids - Public mobile - $20 dollar plan - STFU, you don't need 100GB, you need 1GB for calls. 99% of the time, go use wifi
4) not going to ream on people to turn down heat and put on a shirt cause these are necessities.
Daily
1) No more uber eats. Our tenant would uber to 7-11 to get food. Are you kidding me. No more uber period. You want to uber, go eat into your allowance. As a family, forced everyone to grocery shop and you want fries, sure, we won't go to mcdonalds, but you can eat as much maccain for entire week for about the same price.
Adults - no more eating out. You want angus burger, sure, we'll buy angus patty at superstore.
We also go shop at bulk places (not costco), but wholesale club to freeze bread / fries / minced meat and saved.
Also stopped going to T&T cause we always get lured into buying their calibee chips / snacks etc.
2) Video games - Converted everyone to rent at library and instead of ps5, to buy ps4. Can kids tell the difference? F no. Yyou have no right to complain it's not 8k.
Also been telling kids to buy 2nd hand video games
3) FB marketplace - friend educated their kid to always buy 2nd hand toys.. honestly, you find some solid deals at FB marketplace.
4) Refurb CPU / desktop / parts etc. this is a weird topic but all in all, refurb is just as good and if you want a new CPU, which i got my dad, i found a 16GB laptop with docking station for cheap cause all he cares is youtube.
I'm not dropping 2k on a imac for you.
^agreed but…… your kids must hate you hahahaha you cheap bastard
He's more Chinese than you!

Some of those we do, like FB market for toys, no cable (parents moved to the box thing a long time ago), but they won't let go of the landline. At the end of the day it was $10 including LD so it's not too bad.
My Fido bill is $32 after tax and my discount ran out already after 6 months. Before that it was $21. You can have reception and not pay too much for it.
We still go to T&T because of the one stop shop convenience. With 2 kids, time == money and I don't always have time to hit three grocery stores to save $3. Also it's actually good self control training with the snacks, see it and don't buy it. We also buy PC chips instead of other brands.
I'm very much against Uber eats, but there are time and space where it makes sense. We still use it once every month or so because of time constraints. The meal planning went awry that week, or work went awry and there's no time to cook. Actually heading out to pick up food is challenging due to time and kids so we end up ordering Uber eats, and we find those buy one get one 50% off places or deals or whatever.
On the topic of your tenant. I don't buy things from convenience stores ever, the prices are too high and they aren't even that convenient.
We have a doorbell camera set up at my parents, who have 3 homestay students to help stretch their budget. The amount of delivery that they order is amazing, that house must be well known to the drivers lmao.

the audacity !!!! how dare you be more Chinese than me.
I challenge you to a ching chong off !!!!!
Food item that's half eaten
Of course this happened before but that's because there was actually their fault. My aunt actually CALLED TNT saying their meat smells. After she made dinner, the meal in fact smelly, (minced meat); so she drove back to the store and then dropped the smelly meat and got a refund.
Again, not your ching chong off, but it does happen - i personally have not seen it done for meat, but pretty bold.

So I always wondered, how do you access so many movies? On said TV box? But so many that you review are recent releases. Some are ching chong obscure ones. But Netflix? Amazon Prime? Is this your one indulgence?
honestly as someone who hasnt played games seriously in at least 10 years, there are tons of ps4 titles that i would love to play and would keep me busy for years at the rate that i play. if you're not the type to keep up with all the AAA titles then ps4 is still pretty solid. you can buy a used one for next to nothing and same with the games. just buy a new controller since you don't know what kind of cretin was using it with his cheeto fingers.
