TBF, as long as the kid is happy, you are happy, a few more bucks is less of an issue if affordability isn't an issue on your budgets. Even with kindergarten if you need before and afterschool care it's still quite pricy.

I'm just spoiled because we like our daycares AND it's $10/d ($200/m)

westopher 02-13-2025 04:35 PM

Yeah I'm pretty worried about the switch for after school care, more about the timing. I work 7-5 and my wife works shift work. We are considering trying to do some sort of nanny share with a few of her friends, as all of us as parents are kinda in the same spot in the sense we all work, full time and have no family here.

^sign up for afterschool Jiu-Jitsu classes. They pick up from the kid's school.

I will say though, of all the things that have assfucked me financially in life, this daycare certainly has allowed me to take it with a smile. They really are spectacular.
My kid came home potty trained. We didn't do shit.

My first kid came home potty trained too lol, now waiting for the 2nd kid to be the same

Awww yea that was sweet. We lucked out and got into the Day Care/Montessori/Pre School whatever you want to call it that was at the top of our list. New location (1st one was in Marpole) and it was 1.5 blocks from my house. We had planned to start her in September the year she was 3 but due to COVID I guess lots of people were wary about bringing their kids to day cares and thus turned down offers to join. We got the call, in March of 2022, she wasn't even 3 yet but they said the spot is ours if we want it only condition was we needed to start within a month. The deal breaker was no she didn't need to be potty trained. $1500 /month but all meals included and they even had extra classes included at no extra charge i.e. Tae Kwan do, French, etc . Best money ever spent I didn't have do make any lunches or snacks for 2 years, she came home potty trained and everything. Bonus, that the $1500 ended up being $1000 when that Government Program came in and for once it was a program that wasn't income based it was simply if the Day Care applied then it applies to all students.

Good thing my kids were not hellspawn... replacing some of the vintage sets on these shelves would cost a fortune. For those in the know, there are sealed copies of Cafe Corner and Green Grocer in the box on the top right.

We have the airport express on the bottom right corner, and we have the black truck with helicopter as well.

We have the yellow jeep, the two rally vans somewhere, but I think my dad may have given those away.

68style 02-14-2025 02:25 PM

Is there like 5 of 1 set on the left side there? I heard of the rule of 3: one to keep, one to open and one to display... but 5? lol

Badhobz 02-14-2025 02:28 PM

YOU FUCKING GUANGDONG HOARDER YOU !!!!!

No, 100% LEGO apart from a 3D printed helmet for the F22 pilot. Custom printing (no stickers) on some of the pieces and the minifigs as well. Models based on Brickmania designs.

LOL back in the early 2000s, I used to buy multiples of a set on discount so I can load up on certain parts. There are many other options nowadays.

Badhobz 02-14-2025 02:40 PM

Omg those jets are sexy as hell !!!! Me wanty a f16 !!!

Those are so sick.

Can you shed some light on how this works? Do you buy all the individual pieces yourself and then follow Brickmania's instructions? Or does it come as a set/package ready to build?

You have two options:

Buy the full kit. This is very convenient - you get all the pieces, printed instructions, printed parts, and custom printed minifigs. However this is very expensive and kits often sell out quickly.

The other option is to buy digital instructions, which will come with a list of the necessary pieces. You can keep your costs down by getting parts from your own collection, or buying used pieces. You can order parts directly from LEGO (generally more expensive than used pieces, but you can get free shipping, but shipping takes forever), or buy from individual stores on Bricklink (faster service/delivery, but you'll have to pay shipping multiple times). Going this route you won't have printed parts nor custom printed minifigs.

Occasionally you might come across printed part packs for sale, but these are quite hard to come by and can be expensive. In general, these companies will sell the full kits, then make instructions + stickers available. If they also made standalone printed part packs, then people wouldn't buy the full kits.

Currently, JGbricks (Canadian based) happens to have two versions (very limited quantities) of printed parts for F-35 for sale at the moment.

Brickveteran has a pack of printed parts (includes 2 pilots) for a F-18F (only 1 remaining!), and they also sell the digital instructions too. Be warned that they are based in the US and if they ship via UPS, you will get charged stupid UPS fees on top of taxes.

Planebricks sells instructions and stickers for really nice models. Rebrickable is a site that sells instructions only (all types of models, not just military).

PM me if you have more questions.

I got the Haunted House when it was available from the Downtown Disney store - flattened the box and shoved everything in my suitcase.

Yeah, castle is my all time favourite theme but ever since stocking up on grey bricks, I haven't had the time or space to build something substantial. :(

You'll see that most of my collection is packed away in boxes. I'm so envious of all your display space!

Unfortunately, even used copies are quite expensive!
