I got mine done with centra too, it's weird how they try avoiding all the federal perks. Mine should've been easy to qualify as we were replacing 100 year old windows :lol.

If you opt for triple pane windows you are eligible for the federal interest-free loan, which is up to $40k interest-free loan over 10 years, at the end of the 10 years you have to pay the balance in full.

For double pane low e (double) windows about 22 windows were quoted at $25k
For triple pane low e (double) windows was $30k

Since the difference is only $5k, I think I'm going to go with the triple pane windows so I can get the 10 year interest federal loan. The double pane do not qualify for the interest-free loan.

I will open a separate investing account, put $250 ($30,000/10 years/12 months) a month into VFV index at an 8% return after 10 years, I should have roughly $46k in that investment account at the end of 10 years. So that should more than cover the original loan.

I'm also getting a quote from ecoline windows as they were in costco so I'll see what their quote is, but I read online that Centra windows are better than ecoline?

But, yeah that's my strategy since my windows are 38 years old aluminum, so they're needing to be replaced.

Food for thought for those who are looking to replace their windows.

pretty sure centra gave me the f off price before. Wanted 7k for a 32" exterior rear entry door.... lol

I got a quote from Centra back in November when they had an additional 30% off promo for a Vancouver Special. We were planning to just do the upstairs and after 30% off it was still a wild price. Additionally it was double pane and the install was where they just put the insert in meaning your window size decreases.

I got a 2nd quote from Long Life Windows which was the company through my research that I wanted to go with, they're more a boutique place, locally owned etc. Their install was more what you would think where they remove your frame and get into the envelope. With no discounts the price was almost exactly the same.

Quotes aside while Centra was very good during their quote you can tell they're a big company where their sales pitch is well polished. I can see why people go with them.

Long Life the person who came was the owners son, he was more laid back but also really professional and felt way less pressure from him.

We went to the aquarium on family day. It was chaos, but we expected that.

At one point, our little guy wanted a break and a snack, so we went downstairs where they have some raised benches, kind of like bleachers, so we could take a seat and chill out for a bit.

We sat down, and a couple minutes later, we hear this bozo telling off an Asian family because they started sitting next to (or within, I couldn't tell) a space where he had spread out 2 small jackets and a couple water bottles to "save" his seats. He called them idiots.

Then he walks off with an old lady who might have been his mom or MIL.

He's gone now, way out of sight. And my wife and I commented how this guy has the audacity to try and claim space for six people as his personal seats with just a couple small jackets, then walk off like that.

I'll admit, I kind of wanted to just shove his jackets out of the way because of his attitude, but I didn't of course.

Little did we know they were about to start a presentation in about 15 mins and that's why people were gathering in advance.

About 1 min before the presentation is about to start, the seats are totally full. Bozo shows up and immediately tells the people sitting next to his jackets that he was there first and they have to leave. Full stop. Get up and leave.

He was such a jerk, I was astounded.

People are kind of stunned. And yet he kept going on.

I wanted to chime in, but there were enough people chirping back at him that I figured I could keep quiet.

As tension escalated, I started recording, just in case.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/NqmV_s2-yOU

He swore at the lady in the white shirt and that's why she left to go find security or a manager.

The guy in the white shirt was like screw this, i'll just get up and leave with my kids.

A few mins later, a dude showed up and asked bozo to leave. He said ok no problem, but you could tell he did so thinking he was the "bigger person" by not causing a scene.

I felt bad for the lady who found the manager. She legit thought he'd be waiting for her after the show was over.

Ahhhh it was so infuriating. It's the AQUARIUM and FAMILY DAY and kids everywhere.

GLOW 02-19-2025 10:45 AM

i can see it both ways.

if my stuff is set at a seat/space, i don't see why i can't step away (eg use the washroom), people do this all the time. mind you if someone sits next to my stuff, especially when there's a show and everyone needs to squeeze in to fit in, i also appreciate that, people do that all the time too.

screaming at people, asian or not, is unnecessary.
everyone's got a family, it's a family day. there's no need to start shit or try to be a tough guy.

i find people that try to start shit often try to do it to someone they realize they can do it to as well and get away with it (i.e. smaller women, older people, language barrier, etc).

that younger guy wasn't having it, and i bet you that dude would not be as 'polite' if it was someone smaller they feel they can intimidate or got so much push back from several people.

unit 02-19-2025 10:57 AM

when its super busy the least you can do is have one or two people in your group sit with the jackets to save the seats. if you just up and leave then it's kinda shitty to expect that your placeholders should be respected when others are struggling to find any seats at all. i can understand having to take your kid to the bathroom but 6 seats? surely someone could have stayed. also to cause a scene about it at a family event is beyond shitty, it's deplorable.

Badhobz 02-19-2025 11:11 AM

thats like parking a china granny at a food court table saying "TAKEN" for a table of 4 or 6
:lol

SOMEBODY THROW a kid through the aquarium glass or something! this is boring.

whitev70r 02-19-2025 11:25 AM

Or having someone stand at a parking spot to save it ... aka Costco Richmond -> fight.

unit 02-19-2025 11:47 AM

at least i have respect for people standing in the stall. that takes balls and zero shame.

Using the washroom is fine. But I feel like if you're going to save spots, then you should have someone to stay behind and be the gatekeeper or you're risking it.

Leaving a couple small jackets behind to save spots for six people 15 mins early, and then leaving to go enjoy other parts of the aquarium, only to come back 1 min before and expecting either (a) your spots to still be there and/or (b) that people would just move aside for you like you're the royal family, and then give people attitude to boot, is absurd.

The woman even commented after that if he came back and was as least nice/polite about it, people probably would have squeezed together to make room

Yea I feel in these scenarios there's also a ratio factor. Like if you have 4 people seated and a couple items saving a total of 6 spots vs 1 person and various items trying to save 6 spots it feels very different. Of course the being a dick or not really puts the cherry on top.

On the topic of saving spots the swim school where my kids go to we've been at for a few years and in the earlier days people always left their shit in the changing stalls right before the kids got out of class despite the staff saying don't do it. I got into it with a couple dads on 2 occasions and they seemed to have zero shame and don't feel they did anything wrong. Yea I get it your kids cold you don't want to wait for a stall but guess what? Every parent is in the same boat you're not special.

bobbinka 02-19-2025 04:39 PM

where's RS beatdown crew when you need it?

Badhobz 02-19-2025 05:54 PM

Geriatric beat down crew doesnt have the same ring to it anymore.

supafamous 02-19-2025 06:01 PM

Who's watching the game tomorrow? 51st state vs USA

BIC_BAWS 02-19-2025 06:02 PM

I never saw you guys as old but damn...

spoon.ek9 02-20-2025 06:16 AM

Definitely going to watch the game tonight. Whether that's at a pub or at home is the question.

GLOW 02-20-2025 08:14 AM

yes there's limits, if the dude was trying to reserve the entire row like that i'm sure a mob would be on him :lol

and 100% if everyone was civil everyone would have done their best to squeeze in and try to make it work. this is the aquarium on family day, not a night club on the granville strip

Yeah. For me, the tipping point was when he said to the guy something like

"i'm sorry, I apologize. You're here with your kids. I get that. I apologize. ...

But I was here first".

It's an old rule: Never follow up an apology with the word "but"

That's ridiculous.

it creates a backlog and i don't agree with that. i stand in line, and if my kid ain't there yet, i wave the next person in line to go if a stall becomes available

nismodrifter 02-21-2025 09:45 AM

What a dick @ aquarium.

Badhobz 02-21-2025 12:52 PM
