Does anyone understand Vancouver parking tax? One time my parking was $7 for an hour (already pretty steep) and the total worked out to be $9.11. That's like 30% tax ... wtf?! Good thing it was work related and expense-able.

There's a parking levy, which you pay, and then you levy your GST and PST on top. Which means you get taxed on tax.

It's the same for most levies it's annoying. The electronics disposal fee is a flat levy on your purchase based on the type of electronic, then you pay tax on top of it.

I believe same on the luxury car levy for >$100k

I believe it's called a Translink tax. I had to look this up cause I too had the same reaction when parking in DT last month, also expensable but I've never seen anything like it.
