I would be more sold on Dyson if they didn't insist on making their vacuums with that crappy tictac plastic. Our plugin vacuum is a Miele and the build quality is so much better.

They instead gave me a number to call Dyson.

Lo and behold, they don't have the parts to fix my vacuum, so my two choices was either wait for them to be in stock with no ETA, or exchange for a new one.

I decided on the exchange option which would take two weeks. Again, they no longer have the V15 Detect on stock so they'll upgrade me to something better.

At this point I'm not sure if I'm getting a V15 Absolute or a Gen5 Detect. But my wife wants her vacuum.

This exact scenario just happened to me except for 2 substitutions:

- Shark not Dyson

- I had to cut the power cord on my Shark on video for them before they'd send me the replacement model

How did my shark break? Brush head? Canister? Filter?

No, just a single rivet bolt separated on the wand, so I couldn't maneuver it properly :alone:

I murdered a vacuum for a fucking rivet bolt.

Fuck all these sucky companies. I'm just going to find my parent's old push / pull / drag 'n bag vacuum and confidentially use it without worry.

Literally this is what they have tucked away somewhere (even though they use their Dyson canister)

This is why Costco exists.

I know we have some accountants here so I had a quick question.

I earned $31,000 of taxable income last year. What would be a healthy RRSP contribution amount to avoid paying taxes this year?

This is just a freelance gig I did. I still have a main job with payroll deductions which I usually get a refund from. I don't want to pay anything this year, so looking to contribute to RRSPs to zero-out what I would owe to CRA.

Thanks

Just plug in your numbers into one of many free tax software's and play around with the RRSP amount to see what return or lack of return you'd get.

Put a new end on the cord and replace the rivet yourself. It's only a few bucks worth of stuff at Princess Auto.

I think ideally you’ll have to contribute $31K to your RRSP to zero out your self-employment income as your employment income deductions are unlikely to cover any of your additional self-employed taxes. Unless, you have employment expenses to deduct through your job. Try to max out every dollar of expenses related to your self-employment income as much as possible.

If it is your first year of freelancing, keep in mind that GST registration for self-employed gross revenue over $30k+ is required as well.

Oh damn Sadge

Gene Hackman, his wife, and his dog found dead in Santa Fe home; no foul play suspected

Badhobz 02-27-2025 04:54 AM

This timeline sucks !!!!!

Great68 02-27-2025 06:27 AM

Shitty

If you have gas appliances, get carbon monoxide detectors!

pastarocket 02-27-2025 10:17 AM

Sad news. I remember watching Hackman in a movie for the first time back in the day. The OG Lex Luthor in the Superman movies.

Now they are using the term 'suspicious'. No foul play but srsly, how does something like this happen without a ??!! hmmmmm .....

This is evoking feelings of covid. And again something about eating a bat.

spoon.ek9 02-27-2025 01:28 PM

man, if we go through another global pandemic with orange man at the helm........

CivicBlues 02-27-2025 01:37 PM

COVID was never about Bat eating though, it was a hoax caused by some Chinese chick's vacation photos in Palau.

I think it was carbon monoxide either way. The question will be whether it was intentional or not.

No one knows still where it came from, but bats have mostly been ruled out it seems. Racoon dogs is the high culprit, and SARS was pangolins.

Now that covid isn't really a thing anymore we can joke about bats again right? :alonehappy:

CivicBlues 02-27-2025 02:21 PM

LOL I kinda like not being called a "bat eater" as a racial slur anymore and maybe now that actual bat eaters have been identified we shouldn't perpetuate it either?

So that was ruled out already. According to the news, not carbon monoxide poisoning.

I'll probably do that. I've never worked on appliances before (because of their disposability) but I'll make an exception here because the vacuum itself isn't actually broken.

That said, my new Shark (Stratos) came in and it's a waaaay better machine. I wouldn't pay $500 for it, but the design, features and even the build is far better than what it replaced.

I hope it's not a Gene 'Benoit' Hackman scenario :heckno:

Or a Betsy 'Benoit' Arakawa scenario, for objectivity...

murd0c 02-27-2025 02:38 PM

I betcha Gene passed away in his sleep and his wife didnt want to live with out him and she took her and the dogs life. Or maybe the other way around.

They'd be able to deem the deaths as suspicious if that were the case :lol
