I was just at Sinclair Centre for passport on Tuesday morning
I got there about 08:05 and there was a long queue across the floor already
A lady came out to do a pre-screen at 08:09 and separated out the people who were there for pick-up only, and the people who were in the wrong line up for Service Canada.
They opened at 08:30 and all in all, i was done three renewals at 09:15.

What is the advantage of going in person vs using mail to renew your passport?

the mail package may get lost (even though it's tracked) and you're going to have to go through additional steps to report the lost passport and renewal it
Walk in sucks because of the line up, but at least you have assurance that your old passport is handled by a passport staff from the start of the renewal.

Yeah my biggest fear is that it goes missing somewhere along the way.

It took me about 75mins and I got there 10mins before it opened.
I couldn't imagine working a job like that, it's like an assembly line. Next person, same questions, same application. Man, doing that for like 30+ years, crazy. And it's like non-stop too.
Some employees were pretty nice, some looked like they just hated their job. It was pretty stark.

I can see how the WFH or a boring job can be advantageous, but working on an assembly line or at the passport office where there's like no down time and you're doing the exact same thing day in and day out and it's non-stop.
At least with a boring office job you can get up talk shit with your buddy at work, or you can just go on RS on your computer or reddit. At the passport office you're stuck at your counter and the line is never ending.

Hybrid is good IMO

I called the passport office due to an error with my son's passport and they agreed to rush a new passport at no charge, provided I bring them new photos.
That same day I went down to Sinclair Centre with the new photos. I arrived early afternoon, back when lineups were still quite long.
It was already jammed and they were telling people that if they decided to stay and wait, there would be no guarantee they'd be seen before end of day.
I had to wait about 45 mins for the first pre-screen desk. I explained the situation and they said yes sir, no problem and handed me a purple ticket. It was literally one of those 50/50 draw raffle tickets you can buy at Staples.
I took the purple ticket to the next room and gave it to an agent. As soon as they saw it they were like, no problem sir, and sent me to the main waiting room.
Not even 2 mins after I sat down, they called my number lol.
You should have seen the faces of all the other people who had been waiting for hours hahaha.
I legit felt like a rock star VIP lol.

Poland is gearing up for war. They have been for a few years (they not only when to Hyundai and said give me all your tanks and jets, build factories in Poland so we can crank even more of them out).
Now this:
Poland to train ‘every adult male for war’ https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-ne...-male-for-war/
Is mandatory service going to be our future too? Probably not.. but I guess that depends on if the US back down anytime soon.

I've watched probably 1000 drone murder videos coming out of the Russia VS Ukraine conflict.
Why do they always send the poor?
There is absolutely 0 chance I would fight for Canada, or for any nations. I would refuse. I'd never let recruiters take me alive.

Hybrid is good IMO | I think Hybrid is the best balance too.
WFH is great if you already have commitments outside of work from M-F like intramural sports or other hobbies to satisfy the social need.

A reminder of how dementia/Alzheimer's can destroy someone. This is the nightmare fuel when I think about my parents wanting to keep living by themselves as they get older.

So he had Alzheimer's and she was his care taker and previously healthy with no known issues?

even how she died, it was ... strange. She died by "hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare but potentially fatal disease spread by infected rodent droppings".
