unless you need a truck all the time i dont see why you would ever buy one. the occasional trip to home depot to pick up plywood or landscaping materials at the garden center can't be worth having a truck for. just get that stuff delivered for like $75 a few times a year.

mikemhg 03-20-2025 11:12 AM

Sucks the Maverick doesn't really have the power to tow a smallish boat either, need an F150 for that.

I mean it's the RAV4 hybrid system paired with a reasonable interior (unlike the tiny Tacoma) and a bed that allows you to put dirty stuff in it.

Unlike the RAV4, you can actually get a hybrid Maverick without waitlist too.

unit 03-20-2025 11:18 AM

i had an employee who did it all the time. i think he was getting paid like $20/hr at the time and he would order like $25 lunches every day. youngest employee we ever had so i guess its just a generational thing. even if you cant cook for whatever reason just pack a tv dinner or instant noods and save an hour of your wages ffs.

68style 03-20-2025 11:19 AM

Every time I see a Maverick I think of Sarah Pahlin :Puke:

isnt only the fwd version a hybrid though? thats a bit of a letdown

AstulzerRZD 03-20-2025 11:22 AM

They have FWD and AWD hybrid now; the system has shared patent and design with Toyota since 2005.

Ford added a stronger CVT to allow 4K tow with hybrid for 2025.

Are the ever taller rear load floors a result of the manufacturer packing the (hybrid) batteries in the trunk? or is that a function of the cars getting taller ride heights?

Back in Jan or something, there was a promo to get 1/2 price tickets to the auto show. I didn't realize at the time that the auto show was taking place during Spring Break. Otherwise, I would have bought tickets and take a vacation day to bring my kid to the show too. Would have been a fun family thing to do.

Coming from a full size truck, I also think a compact truck is the move for your everyday man. I really like the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

whitev70r 03-20-2025 02:00 PM

Which engine would you choose? 2.5L hybrid CVT or the 2.0 Ecoboost wth 8 spd auto?

Kind of confusing with the 2 engine options and all the trims.

Let’s hear it

Pickup didn't make any sense until EV pickups came along. I second Astul's comments, if you are after a Maverick, might as well just go with a Lightning.

The idea is that you can have all that utility all the time. And the mileage on a single charge would be more than enough for regular city driving.

In one of those once-a-year-or-two trips where you need to drive beyond the battery and you couldn't wait, just rent a truck or something.

That's why CT was so convincing for me. All the utilities of a pickup and none of its downsides. CT is incredible if you could afford one. The Foundation Series now has free SC for the life of the vehicle, which IMO is a great deal for people who drives enough.

But if not, Lightning is great for its price. One of the contractors that worked on my house converted his entire fleet of pickups (8 of them) to a mix of 6 Lightning and 2 CT and he said the fuel saving alone made sense for the jump as they averaged almost 3 tanks per truck every week and used to budget $15000 in fuel alone.

IMO Hybrid AWD or bust because midsize and compact trucks NEVER get any better mileage than full sizers.

With the 2.0T you'd get 9-11L when a full sized turbo V6 gets 13-14.
With the hybrid you'll see like 4-5L which makes the size and small bed tradeoff worth it.

Truck trims:
Ford XL = Toyota L (fleet)
XLT = LE (adds like power seats maybe)
Lariat = Limited (leather, sound system)

F150 specific (tbh they do a terrible job compared to RAM)
Platinum = Lexus Premium (rear heated seats, pano roof)
King Ranch = Luxury (rustic, semi aniline leather)
Limited = Ultra Luxury (massaging seats)

Tremor = TRD Off Road
Raptor = TRD Pro but with an actually good engine

Yep. If you're used to a Highlander or Sienna size, just bite the bullet and get the full size EV.
The larger midsize like Rivian and Colorado don't rly have space for adults to squeeze by a set of child seats in the back.

TBH the Silverado/Sierra are ready for prime time.
Giant 200kw battery, 300km+ even in extreme cold, towing, etc.
260kW avg charging and 30 mi topoff, 130kW even if battery is ice cold.

The Lightning and Cybertruck are more like 40-50 minutes 10-80% and 130kW average.
In the hella cold, gonna have some problems with a 60kW charge rate.

You still haven't changed your name to whiteAudiA3, yet you are here to ask about engine and transmission options? How dare you?!!??! :suspicious:

whitev70r 03-20-2025 05:43 PM

I'm on such a PHEV wave, my new (but used) ride is friggin unreal. Tank is 40L. Last tank, I broke 900 kms. This one, I'm on pace to break 1000 kms !! I don't even know how to pump gas anymore, it's been that long !! I go to a gas station like once a month. But mine is a hybrid with DSG ... not sure if I could drive a hybrid with CVT though.

Plug in hybrid, where have you been all my life ??!!

I ain't driving a 232" long, 80" wide truck around the city. It's just grotesque.

I figure you really love advertising that you're an asshole so the CT is perfect for you.

Yeah it really only works if you're already used to driving minivan or boats (Charger was 201 long and is 78 in)
I've wheeled the longer 244in ones around NYC, parking garages are the biggest problem

I went to the auto show yesterday - it's spring break and it was something to do with the kid (she had a great time climbing into everything and pushing all the buttons) - the ticket was $11 for me but it's a shell of what it used to be. It's not even half as big as it was when it moved to the convention centre.

No Honda/Acura, no Mazda, no BMW, no Mercedes, no Porsche (the Porsche club was there though), no Stellantis (nobody misses them though).

I got to check out a few cars that I've been interested in though - the Crown Signia, the EV9, EV5 (that thing will sell like mad when it shows up), the Nautilus.

I wouldn't have otherwise gone if my kid was in school but it was interesting to see some cars that I otherwise would never look at and/or make general observations about cars like...

- The Maverick is pretty neat, they do a nice job of cost cutting.
- Rear load floors keep moving up and up and up. I was surprised at how small a lot of SUV trunks were and it made me appreciate Honda's packaging (and the trunk of my RDX) a lot more.
- Ride heights for ICE cars keep going up too especially for Subaru, GM, and Ford. It's become a competition to make their cars harder to climb into. EVs, OTOH, are getting lower to the ground which is great.
- Door panels and trim pieces for commodity brands seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper for the brands that were there. Honda and Mazda are way ahead of the other brands in terms of quality
- 3rd row access in SUV really sucks ass. We need to replace them with minivans that are a size smaller than the Odyssey/Sienna.
- The Ioniq5 didn't change their seat design in the refresh which is the deal breaker for me. I love everything about it except for the seats, they fit my wife and I terribly.
- I hated the new Murano. I think it's ugly and the view out is terrible. Material quality is much improved but it didn't feel premium which is what they were aiming for.

Did you end up seeing the Crown Signia? If so, thoughts?

Learn how to drive maybe? Our roads and parking lots are built with pickups in mind. If you have problem handling a F150 in Canada, I suggest you take some driving lessons because that shit ain't all the big.

red kryptonite 03-20-2025 10:55 PM

90% of parking stalls in bc dont properly fullsize trucks. your front or back will always be sticking out pass the line, and your wheels are inches within the lines if not touching.
you can be the best driver in the world and mindful of where you park, its not going to stop some careless fuck from hitting you.

Are you one of those that tries to park a F150 in a small car spot?

Not saying it's impossible but a F150 is a tight squeeze even in some parts of the PC parking lot, particularly the exits.

Have you tried navigating any of the London Drugs plazas?

To say our roads and parking lots of built with pickups in mind is such a wrong blanket statement thing to say. Even Seattle isn't well setup for a F150 sized vehicle in a lot of places.

Before you get into me for not knowing how to drive. I used to drive a Chevy Express for delivery work in university, I've driven my fair share of F150 and a friend's 2500 around town as well.

68style 03-21-2025 07:00 AM

Weirdly enough, even Calgary a tonne of parking spots are not made for pickups, they pretty much constantly use 2 spots here

unit 03-21-2025 07:01 AM

i literally saw a cybertruck going around the crystal mall parking labyrinth a few weeks ago. no way in hell that guy actually got a spot unless he went straight all the way down to the bottom. also even getting to the bottom there is really hard with a big car because the ramps are always packed with cars going both ways.
